HPS VS MH Heat wise?

MH are already known for their intense blue spectrum....

Warm typically refers to a more red-orange color.

You should care about full spectrum(sometimes called dual spectrum) because that's what the SUN does. Mixing red and blue to achieve greatness.

So the warm spectrum halide is better because it's reddish orange but has more blue then a hps?

Bulbs vary significantly by manufacturer....

From what I've seen... Hortilux BLUE MH would be superior to ANY other [solely] HPS bulb I've ever seen. The spectrum is FULL and intense. I've seen a few grows done with these...(search that shit on youtube). Impressive.

SUPER BLUE! It has dual spectrum(MH & HPS)! Unless you got two ballasts.. one for HPS and one for MH.

I've never used HID myself, but the numbers(science) and the grows I have seen with them.... Just WOW. Blows away the competition. Maybe CFLs or LEDs could get a higher gram/watt... but it'd be VERY close.

Some people claim CFL has higher bud quality due to higher quality of light over HPS and also much less IR radiation than HID which damages foliage/buds.

I'm just bought four 400 switchable ballasts. Maybe I'll do 2 mh and 2 hps. . . . .

576 kWh/month running 12/12.... That's probably at least $50-60/month at 10 cents per kWh.

I can tell you three things with my 1000w MH Warm Deluxe bulbs.

They have plenty of red
they have plenty of blue
the have plenty of heat.

in a 32 degree garage, i was able to temp 50 degrees of heat at 1 ft from the bulb. YMMV.

I won't be using 1000 watts though . . . . four 400 watts in my flower room. I'm also not worried about energy consumption. I have been using a lot since I moved into my house. For a while I was running two 1000 watts 24 hours a day plus pumps and other lights . . . . .

That cold of a grow room is perfect! Because you can use a propane heater to raise your temps to where they should be and give your plants lots of c02.

The whole garage is cold, sure. But in the summer it wont be, and hopefully it will be warm enough to not need heat in march after I build the bloom room in the corner w/ insulation.

If your gonna grow in there this summer I would invest in a water chiller and water cooling system for you light. I used a 1000 watt in the summer and air cooled it plus an AC and still had major heat issues. I have a crappy old basement though. . . . Water cooling lights is by far the most efficient way to cool the bulbs down.

Fuck yeah dude. I lost a bunch of plants and got crappy harvests due to lights drying up and burning my plants. That's I'm going with four 400 watts in my flower room. I'm still going use one 1000 watt blue spectrum in my veg but I don't think there will be an issue cause I will have it far away from my plants to spread out my light. Like I was saying water cooling is the way to go. It is expensive for the initial setup but you will save in the end and always have a good harvest if eberything else goes well.

You should have your garage lined with spray foam insulation. You may be able to diy this with kits like this:

Or it would actually probably be better (and cheaper) to have it done when you crop out and then just clean out for it. Look in the yellow pages in your area under insulation. Call them all. (Not kidding, call every on in this economy because there are contractors starving willing to work at half price) and give them a rough esimate of the garage dimensions and wall thickness and ask for a quote based on that.

You could insulate your garage with fiberglass bats... But garages are notorious for moisture issues even without a grow and high humidity destroys the r value of fiberglass insulation and to be honest there just is no insulation that works anywhere even remotely close to what foam does. If you wanted to match it with fiberglass you would have to double the thickness of your garage walls with more framing so you could use r30 thick batts.

That foam sprayed around any grow area turns the thing into a giant foam cooler. (except thicker and better) Amazing shit...

how dose that setup works? and what kind of light can you run this setup on?
