HTG 400w Original Grow Tent Kit.

shoot, i guess im gonna have to buy that fan you mentioned, hopefully htg will allow me to return the stock crap duct fan that came with the kit and give me a price break for the new fan. if I get the fan you mentioned, would temps still be an issue; considering the fact that the air being exhausted out into the kitchen has no where else to go but the living room and kitchen itself...

P.S. how loud does the fan run anyways? just curious... TV is about 11 ft away from it..

Once I got the HV inline fan I haven't had temp problems. You're going to pull from the house and vent into the house. I don't think that will be an issue as long as the house has mid level temps. The noise...? That depends on the fan quality you buy. The fans that are twice as expensive are probably 1/2 as noisy. I have a cheap fan (424cfm) that does just fine but is somewhat noisy. I have it in a cardboard box with a pillow underneath it. It's quiet now. (Btw, I guess there is no Cool 4) The fan and a variable speed controller will make a world of difference.

thanks so much for the advice, I called HTG today and their customer service reps were extremely helpful, they're shipping me out the 4" high velocity fan + the controller for free, and free shipping as well. ^_^ Ill have to pick up a 6" to 4" reducer at lowe's or home depot.

Cool! I like HTG. Their prices are great and they just opened a store in Denver. I buy from a local store (MUCH closer than Denver) that matches their prices but no shipping. But HTG is hard to beat! Keep us updated with your grow!

most definitely, i just bought a 6" to 4" reducer and im going to be installing that next to the easy cool 6 with 4inch flexible duct work (roughly 8ft) leading out to the top of the tent. How big of an passive intake would i need with this new setup? will a 4" vent port be enough with maybe a foot of duct work to block lighting

hello again guys! its been a minute, I finally got my grow tent setup with the new 4" high velocity fan rated at 170 cfm but I am still running into heating issues. =( I left it running with my current setup and the temps went up to 89F. Currently the fan is setup and connected to the bottom right of the tent because I do not have the proper equipment to hang the velocity fan on the top right. I figured if I attached duct work on the outer side and run it to the top, itll be the same right? Would that be a viable solution to have the passive intake on bottom with the vent flaps and run duct work for the exhaust out to the top part of the tent? I have a dog in my apartment and he barks non-stop with the windows open so I cant vent the hot air outside >_<. help, i'm panicking because my clones are coming in this week

You want to pull the cool air from your apartment through the light. Stick the light in the middle of the tent. Just duct one side of your reflector to a vent in the tent. The hook your fan up to the other side of your reflector and pull air through it. Make sure you put your reflector on hangers as well so that you can raise and lower it with your light as needed. The duct the exhaust from your fan out of the tent. Make sure you leave some extra ducting so that you can raise and lower the fan & hood without pulling the ducting out. Since your hood is enclosed you will be exhausting all of the hot air out of it this way. Keep your apartment cold and that might help with the temperature as well. Also, you aren't going to have your light that close in the beginning. Maybe not ever depending on your cooling issues. General rule of thumb is to place your hand 3-4 feet under the light and keep raising it toward the light till you feel it start to burn. Drop it down a few inches from this burn point and that's where your plants should be. Your clowns even lower in the beginning.

oh ok, so the fan has to be right next to the reflector? it's pretty heavy and I'm not sure if my tent beams can handle the extra weight, did you check the pictures of the latest post i provided; is that a viable way to set it up and have extra duct work outside the tent so that the heat gets exhausted farther away from the tent. thanks for the advice given so far, but im still confused on how to exactly setup the air flow and fan...

i have a homemade tent and i use 2 fans 1 for cool air in from window and 1 pulls heat out through scrubber. but i built my tent from wood and garbage bags. i dont even use air cooled lights. 3 x 400 watters

damn, i wish i can exhaust air out to a window... i need to find a solution for this heating issue.... im stumped on how to optimize my setup without spending a whole lot more.... already dropped roughly $700 on this current setup. I didn't know a 400w metal halide would generate this much heat... sigh

no im pulling in from outside not exhausting. like this window--->fan[grow box]--->filter--->fan--->exhaust to bedroom

oh i see... interestin build.. how high does your temps run? my kitchen does not have window access... i can only exhaust out into the kitchen and passive intake from the kitchen... the issue is that tent is building up heat and im not sure why since I just upgraded the fan to a high velocity 170 cfm which shouldve done the trick. I'm assuming i need to run additional duct work to exhaust the hot air further away from the tent... but how big of an intake hole should i have? sorry, im still a big noob to this...

i think if u had some way of cooling the air b4 it goes in the tent u will be fine. my temps are high 70's mid 80's. i also run my lights at night. and for the record dont think it wont stink up ur whole house, and creep out the front door. security is most important. move ur tent next to window maybe? its like a free a/c for me (winter months). in the summer i have an a/c in the window

I wouldn't be too worried about exhausting the air farther away from the tent. If you want to do it then fine. From the looks of it you have a ceiling fan right there and if you pull in from one side of the tent and exhaust to the other side you will be fine.

I am pretty sure the duct fan that you have is fine for what you are trying to do. Just hang it as close to the reflector as possible. The poles in your tent should be able to support it. If the can't then hang it farther away. The closer you hang it to the reflector the more efficient it will be. All you are trying to do is get that hot air out of your reflector and replace it with cool air from your kitchen. With 160cfm that fan is more than sufficient. Even if it is only doing 100cfm the fan will exhaust the air from your hood 30 times a mintue which is fine. Not sure if you have central air or window shackers but either way your electric bill is gonna go up trying to keep the kitchen cool.

Also, put the clamp fan inside the tent a lot lower. Make it circulate the air under the hood in the plant area. When you have plants in there you want it to be hitting them. Not too hard but just enough to make the leaves move around a little. It helps strengthen the plant and stalk.
