HTGSupply 400 watt HPS

Is anybody familiar with this light and wether or not it is a good deal. I've looked around and it seems to be well priced for a 400 watt HPS system. I only plan on growing 3-6 plants so this should work well?
Any other suggestions for my nest grow will help (i.e. place for seeds, nutrients, etc...)
please keep in mind I am on a budget.

I used this on my first grow and It worked great and is still working but the hood it came with sucks and gets really hot. I had too raise my light too high for a 400w to work like I wanted(low ceiling). Other than its good. There customer service is pretty good too, Had a issue with MH bulb and they replaced it right away.

I can't speak for HTG's ballasts as I've never used one before, but Hydrofarm Xtrasun ballasts are great and in the same price range if that helps.

Is the temperature a big problem?

Where did you get you hydrofarm xatrasun from? and how did it work?

It's just a ballast. Hydrofarm is the brand and Xtrasun is the name of that product line. Heat wasn't a huge issue, just keep them in a well ventilated area and out of the grow space if you can. Google hydrofarm and look for their products.

I bought 4 of their 600 watters http://www.htgsupply.com/Product-Digital-Greenhouse-600-watt-HPS-Grow-Light.asp They work great but the hood is shit, I ended up replacing all 4 hoods with ones I found on ebay.

I started out with the same setup a few years back. I had an issue with one ballst crapping out on me. E-mailed Tony at HTG and explained the problem and a replacement was delivered to me before I even sent back the bad one. In total I had 5 of them and ran'em a year and sold them on C/L and went to Quantum Digitals. But the hoods that come with that package are crap. If you order it, upgrade to a better hood.

and as for the rest of the grow. any suggestions? nutes? seed banks? etc...

I'm actually using the 400w HPS from HTG supply. It's a good economical choice for a beginner grower. If you want to see how it grows check out my journal here.
If you're looking to upgrade your hood do yourself a favor spend the extra dough for a 600w setup with a ventilated hood, you'll get more out of it in the long run.
