"Everyone" knows about Humboldt.
It has been a name associated with cannabis for, well I really couldn't tell you...
It is referenced in popular culture (songs and other media) sill all the time. There's even a major motion picture.
But the climate is changing as legalization affords places with their own things going on (CO, OR) a chance to put their own names out there.
California, Humboldt (in fact he whole Emerald Triangle) has resisted legalization.
But as someone who lives here... I ask, at what cost? Black market dealers make a lot of money, mostly transporting product out of the County. But the Counties coffers are pretty dry. With a lot of homelessness (mostly people coming here thinking to make green gold) and a tight job market.
I believe we need the new businesses legalization would provide. As it is, many of our most successful businesses are already in that field, in a way (Fox Farms for one). And we could possibly make a nice turn on tourism.
Is it too late for Humboldt/The Emerald Triangle to become The Amsterdam of America/Napa Valley of Weed?
Does our name still make you want to come out here and try all our fine goods? Or, at least, make you more likely to buy a product (many products, most of which aren't based in Humboldt or the region even use the name, area code, or other associated thing on their labeling)?
What's your take on the "Humboldt brand"?
