Humidifier water additive

I'd like to bounce my humidity up during the day. I read a lot of humidifiers grow mold. Does anyone add anything like peroxide or vinegar to the water to prevent mold? I'm also growing organic and don't want to use to strong an anti bacterial agent that might harm bacteria in my soil.

When I use a humidifier I just use RO water and clean the humidifier tank out every week with a cloth and then wash it out with some RO water. I don't use vinegar due to the fact it could make my plants smell like vinegar lol

I learned to avoid tap water due to mineral powder ruining carbon filters and generally creating a mess. Distilled cured the problem but can eat into the pockets over time. RO would work also if that's an option. Fortunately for me I'm able to harvest rainwater. When it gets down to 10 ppm or less I collect. Gubment website gives treatment guidelines for collected water. In my case I use 7-8 drops of bleach/gal for storage. Powder residue problem eliminated and noticed also cleaning of humidifiers not eliminated but greatly reduced whether using distilled or rain water. The slime that accumulates in the unit isn't mold IMHO but rather algae. Cleaning wouldn't be eliminated but reduced.

You’re not supposed to use any additives to humidifier water. Should be using distilled or RO water.

You also should be routinely cleaning it. This last point is more than likely the step skipped where people are having mold or algae growth.
