Humidity question

Sorry for the noob question here guys, I'm new here and looking forward to pursue my own small "micro-garden". I've done a lot of research on everything I need to do, but I have a small question

Now, I know you're supposed to have a controlled humidity, measured by a hygrometer (i think?). I don't have one (yet) but I'm wondering if using a de-humidifier inside of my grow room would be of benefit? Have any of you experimented in doing this? Or should I avoid it?

P.S my grow room would be in my basement, and I live in a relatively cold climate. (if those details have any relevance)

If your cellar is a bit cold and damp, a dehumidifier may be ideal as they also raise the temps! Nice!...

Ya hygrometer is what you need can be bought at any home improvement or on eBay. Depends on your relative humidity if you need a dehumidifier or humidifier, and which way you want to take the humidity. Yes dropping humidity will raise temps as it puts hot dry air to kill the moisture in the air, so you have to be prepared if you are already heat challenged.

Thanks for the reply guys.

My basement is pretty cold and damp. So should I put the dehumidifier inside WITH the plants, or outside of my grow room? Say in the hallway?

One more thing, how much does a hygrometer sell for?

During the veg stage keep it between 60%to70% and during flower between 40%to60%. In the last 3 weeks I would go closer to 40% to prevent mold. I got a hydrometer/temp sensor for 8 dollars at home depot.
