In reading a bunch of threads about the use of hydrogen peroxide in hydro applications, I had a few questions. I like the fact that it oxygenates roots and also keeps the water free of nasties. Most seem to advocate the use of 35% food grade H2O2 vs the 3% variety available in your average CVS. People have reported anecdotally that there are all kinds of extra chemicals and metals that are added to the 3% H2O2 as stabilizing agents. Is this a fact, because in my research, I haven't been able to discern whether this is true or not, or obtain a list of ingredients? And if it is true, do those stabilizing agents harm plants, roots or interfere with nutrient uptake?
I would order some 35% H2O2 but I have heard that it is a watched chemical by the DEA, is this true? I see it on amazon, and people do use it for medical applications and alternative cancer therapies and such, but being on a government watchlist creeps me out. Also 35% is a bit pricey, but I guess the cost evens out somewhat due to the dilution factor.
I have been having some bizarre pH swings and so I squirted a little bit of 3% peroxide into both my cloner and main rez. I haven't noticed any adverse effects on the plants thus far other, only that it seems to raise the pH a bit. Does peroxide react with and/or break down the nutrients in a hydroponic solution?
