Hydroton, Hydroton, Hydroton

Hello all,

Just a question on what medium, if any should I be using with hydroton?

I've read you can use rockwool, but I hear a lot of complaints about ph issues.

Or are there ways to do it without a medium?

Any experienced users opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Beauser

i like straight hydroton but when i'm starting seeds i start them in 1" rockwool cubes then put the cubes with sprouts into hydroton... my ph creeps a lil but not bad.

what kind of system? ebb n flow?

Yes, its GH Waterfarm, I actually got it at a garage sale for 10 bucks. Everything is in it.

So you recommend the rockwool then? I appreciate it.

For ebb and flow rockwool or coco is the thing to have.

I haven't done straight seeds in hydroton, though I'm quite sure if you germinated the seed in a wet paper towel for a few days you should have a long enough root to be able to set it gently in the hydroton. after a few days the root should have split and wrapped around some of the hydroton to hold it firmly in place.

I'm going to try the latter, just for giggles. I have done soil a bit, but never hydro.

I'm a pretty quick learner, and I don't see why the hydroton wouldn't stabilize it.

How deep would you say to plant it? Half inch? Inch?
