very scary experience, seeing commercials about it brings me back. I stepped too far into a pool with a slanted base I guess, because there was no where left for me to step, or i stepped too far, and couldnt swim. i was swallowing water, trying to flail around and grab something, or get my footing somewhere, but nothing. i was pulled out by my arm and thats all i remember about it. my parents were drunk and not paying attention

When I was two my dad was building a deck outside while i was there, I guess he turned around for a second and then I was gone, had fallen under the solar cover. He grabbed me very quickly but still I could have drowned very easily.

I choked on a hot dog once. My air way was completely blocked. I freaked out and ran to the bathroom and tried to wash it down. My mom ran in, saw what was happening and did the Heimlich.

well i went camping the other day at the beach i went into the sea with 3 others and started swimming one of my friends said, is any one else finding it hard to swim, now i couldnt touch the floor and the harder i swam the more tired i got, but i was going nowhere i started panicing. i managed to get my feet to touch the floor but took ages to get back in.

its scary shit, you always hear about people drowning in the sea and think why didnt they just swim, but its not until something like this happens.... it make you think ho easy it would be to drown.

When I was 6 years old my mother and her boyfriend took my sister and I to a swimming pool, they left us there in the middle of the woods, with strangers, unattended but this wasnt just any ordinary swimming pool, this was actually more of an excess water runoff, hole which was connected to a Dam.

Well little did I know, every 15 minuets it would drain all of the water out of the hole and refill it, I just happened to be in the middle of the pool during just such a drainage and was slowly but forcefully sucked towards the bottom, luckily though I struggled with every little ounce of strength within my six year old body to make it to the edge of the poll, at this point I'm the only one in the pool and I'm quite upset as you can well imagine. So I made it to the edge of the pool and to my utter disbelief The only edge of the pool I had access to was covered in red ants, very angry bitey red ants I might add. At the edge while I was fighting the red ants and the current of vacuum drain doom I decided to try and reach out to my fellow man, most of whome were nearby drying off, well this is where the kicker to the story comes in, 3 adult individuals had seen my plight and didnt come to my aid, even when I reached out to this one nice looking women, I remember looking deep in her eyes and screaming 'help' but she just kept walking by the pool like nothing was happening, so with my very last bit of strength I managed to hoist myself out to find out that my sister had left and I was now lost in the woods by my self. Fortunatly I was smart enough to follow someone to the street where I found our car.

Yeah, I'd say I almost drowned.

I nearly did as an adult - stupid really

Was on holiday with 2 mates, one (mate a) knew the place so left me and my other mate (mate b) for a while - we decided to swim...now my buddy (b) should be an olympic swimmer, and I'm not great at it...

...I had cateracts in my eyes (imagine looking through a steamed up window...) - and I was being blinded by the sun and dazzled by the water reflections...the WORST GLARE possible (I couldn't see shit really - everything just went a hazy white) - I was swimming, then my mate (b) took off out to sea...I couldn't see our towels or where we were on this massive beach so I didn't have much choice but to follow as my other mate (a) was still nowhere to be seen and I didn't wanna get lost...

...so there I was, swimming after my mate (b) - I eventually got KNACKERED, so decided to turn back...got about halfway back (I could just about see the beach as a 1-inch line in the distance...) then started to have trouble keeping my head above water - JUST then my other mate who'd gone off (a) appeared and helped me to shore! SHIT its easily one of the scariest moments of my life...my other mate (b) came back and promptly got a real bollocking off me and mate a - it just hadn't crossed his mind about my eyesight problem, or that I may not be a great swimmer.

I almost died... but it wasn't drowning, that happened to another kid down the street. My problem was a babysitter who didn't keep a good eye on me, and I found my way into a fire ant pile... needless to say I was very close to meeting whatever was my maker, I was only 3 years old at the time.

That's pretty badass. I have this epic mental image of this kid just marching across the bottom of the pool like they're wearing lead shoes and just walking up the sloped bottom until they reappear. I think I saw that in a Tom and Jerry cartoon once.

I very nearly drowned while surf skiing when I was 18. Went over the falls hit the rocks below and my surf ski's nose got jamned and my feet went through the foot straps up to my knees and I was stuck until the next big set freed me. I got what we called a death rash that lasted a week or so.
