I am a new grower and need your help

I have been reading here for ever and just the other day signed up for a membership and today this my first post :lol: Now i know i am not good with punctuation spelling or any of that so please dont give me a hard time for run on sentences and punctuation spelling etc. after all i am here with you to learn and talk about the plant we love! OK now for my questions i bought my first house a year and 2 months ago and i have decided to put a grow room in my basement to hide the room i am going to build it the with of my basement which is 29 feet and i figured i would come out 6 feet and it has 8 1/2 foot celings that is un finished so it will be a little bit smaller i am going to build a couple of rooms off of it so i can put a hidden door in one of the rooms entering the grow room i just don't know how to divide up my grow room i need enough plants just to produce enough for me and my wife and i would like to give my uncle some as he doesn't have much money he is on disability and is bi polar and a manic depressive with multiple personality disorder and it helps him and i think if i grow certain strains it will help him alot we are kinda heavy smokers well i guess we would smoke a ounce to 2 ounces a week if we had it and my uncle would need about a ounce every week or 2 i want to build a dwc system but i really don't know how many plants i need i was thinking 15 but is that 2 much how much water would it take for a 15 site dwc system with 5 gal buckets i could use 3gal but from what ive read 5 is better i want do use good nutes and as all of u guys know is expensive but i don't think i realized how expensive that's why i was wondering how much water is needed for dwc so i can get a idea of expense as for grow room expense i don't care to pay more to get the results i want to use led lights and i was thinking of the magnum led's any help designing my room advice for anything or just any thing u guys think i need to know cause alot of you guys can do what i hope to do one day so consider me a sponge ready to soak up what ever you guys wan't to throw out there cause i have never grew anything but i am reading everything i can and watching anything i can watch so please help and if you need any information on my area downstairs just let me know and also i had considered a drip system into 5 gal buckets would that save money on nutes and get comparable results i wan't to be efficient as possible thanks so much

i have watched some of Jorge Cervantes and mr green just really wanting to figure out how to lay out my room it will be 6 feet deep and can be up to 28 feet wide i know it don't need to be but i figure i can have my flowering room and my cloning room/mother/veg room and a plae to store my supplies the reason i wanted led was to keep power bills down Thanks for your help

If you can, devote around 2/3 of the available space to flowering. You can amalgamate a veg/clone/ mother room in a comparatively small space.

i grow high yielding, large plants in soil

so just ask any question and i will help

how many plants you want to grow to yeild 2oz's per week
you could do this with 4 plants and 4x 600w lights but could get 8oz's a light every 8 weeks (flower room 14ft x 4ft) and with the right strain and phoneo a lot more yeild

you need to veg the plants for 8 week to get a good root mass in-turn yeild ( 4 plants under a 400w-600w mh would work well) veg room 4ftx4ft

and a small space for cutting under a cfl to root them

air cooled hoods will help with temps
soil is good for newbie's grower to start with

so are you guys totally against led's also since i am new and have a black thumb instead of green you guys think i should soil instead of hydro i had planed on doing both with dwc and soil too i was going to use bag seed the first couple of times till i get the hang of it and i am so scared to order seeds do you guys do that with no problems i am not scared of losing money on seized packages i just don't want to go to jail or get put on probation but from what ive red the worst that happens is they keep them and send you a letter i planed on using attitude seed bank i would like to grow a few different strains mostly sativa i am so tired of the runaround trying to buy weed to smoke and all i can get is Mexican dirt weed for 25 a half nick or 1/8th oz no deals either so if i want a oz its 200 so that really sucks and if i can find anything good they want 20 a gram so if i grow my own me and my wife can smoke what we want and so can my uncle and i can save money to do more important stuff like take my little girl to Disney land and all the stuff i wish my dad would have done with me sorry got a little off subject there:lol: and you asked how many plants i want to grow i have no idea i want enough for me and my wife and my uncle and if i had any extra i could sell a little t my sister in law to cover some of the expense for nutes and power

what the law like where you live
i live in the uk so, i am try to get the most from a plant
instead of a light

its easy to loss your crop in hydro but
in soil you have a much better chance of getting a higher yeild on your first grow

if plant count does not matter where you live, i would do 18 plants under 2 600w lights and you should pull more than 16 oz's every 8 weeks
but this means 18 plants in veg,18 plants in flower and when you take cutting, you need about 30 to select the best 18 cuttings

grow from seeds take a lot longer than cutting and the seeds are not cheap

i would buy the best seeds you can, but only buy 4-10 seeds and take cutting off the best plants in veg

hps will give you the best yields for the electric you use

First off thank you for trying to help me here is a link the laws where i live in the us http://norml.org/laws/penalties/item/tennessee-penalties-2 :wall:that tells it all you are so lucky to live in the uk our laws really suck here especially where i live they call it the bible belt and it is awfull everybody is on pain pills or meth and they are after us for some pot but that's another discussion lol i know seeds are not cheep can i get just as good quality with soil as hydro. i plan on insulateing and soundproofing my room i wan't to take as much risk out as possible thus the hidden door and all the sound proofing and why i was looking at led's here is the link for the ones i was talking about http://www.357magled.com/ i like the lay out you described cause i could make it not as wide and have a little hallway to bring in fresh air and exaust through a carbon filter as for buying seeds i was going to buy a few different strains find the ones that we like the best then start cloning i can't wait to get started but i wan't to have a good plan in place and i want to do it the best i can with the best equipment that i need if i can get it cheaper and its as good thats great i don't have to have name brand stuff i just want to do it right even if it cost's more and it takes longer to get started in the end it will be worth it

well, my room is 11 x11. in it i have a tent for veg. and a 4.5 x4.5' floor space for my flower. i have like 6 to ten plants under a 1000 watt hps, but for two years, i did the same thing with just a 600 watt. im not sure if this is over crowding myself. maybe someone can chime in. just remember the flower room needs its 12 hours off, to be TOTALLY DARK! check for light leaks. and have at least 6" vents. too small, and humidity will built faster than it can be blown out. place plants on some kind of insualtive stuff, so they feet dont get cold. same with water buckets.

thanks allot yeah i plan on running plenty big enough fans that's why i was going to sound proof so you don't hear them i ha planed on using dwc and then doing a couple in soil also i was going to build me a little tray on the floor to hold it up and i plan on making it light proof i am going to build it like 2 or 3 seperate rooms in my 6*28 ft space well its like 4 and a half when i make my little hall way in front of the rooms and the foundation wall will be against the back it will be underground on 3 sides and i can make it 6in to a foot deeper if needed to accommodate my little hall it don't have to be big just enough so i can slide through and get to my individual rooms i realise it will take me a while to get started cause i want to get the good stuff but i wan't to grow the best i can so i want to have a good plan then buy my stuff i am going to sell my car i don't drive it anymore and i should get 5500 for it so i am going to use that and save some to build my secret room and two rooms off of it or at least one to hide my door i will be doing all the work myself so all i have to buy are supplies so i want to have the right stuff first so i don't have to buy it again at least for a long time and i wan't it to be totally stealth , thanks for taking the time to read my stuff and help

here is my first attempt at an outdoor bag seed grow all of these were planted within a couple days apart as they cracked they were started in a burpee organic starter tray and then transplanted into cups with burpee organic seed starter soil 0.06-0.03-0.03 they are arround a week and a half to two weeks old do they look ok they seem a little yellow to me do i need to add any thing? i would not give them any nutes,
small plants need a low amont of nutes, you should have the nutes needed in the soil
for about 2 weeks and then repot them and don't feed them for the first weeks

LEDs work good for veg. I have'nt used them for flower as I have HPS but I hear they work pretty well. I saw a video where commercial growers were using them for the whole process and they looked great. I know for sure the blue LEDs work great for veg and use less power. A lot of people say they don't work so they won't feel like they need to switch. And easy on the water. You should probably go with soil at least at first. A lot harder to fuck up. And no soil with pre added nutes. Too hard to control.

Thanks for the input i really would like to use led's cause no heat and power consumption just trying to do some research and trying to come up with a plan

if you want to safe a littel money on power .. and also dont want the bill to look suspicious you could go with a nice T5HO 8 tube fixture ..

same price as a good MH I reccon.. and can easily make 6 plants ready for flowering ..

cheaper then LED to buy and they do work .. not said LED dont .. but I heard boath good and bad things about em .. atlest make sure you dont go cheap .. and buy some Chinese made once .. dont trust em :D

a nice T5HO 8 tube fixture and 6 plants ... 4 weeks veg.. then in the flowering room .. under them 2x400W HPS .. so you can add 2 plants inbetween and get more light out of it so to speak ..

that just one way and how I might do it .. keep em low .. grow Indica .. top/FIM em .. LST maybe ..
