I am about to put holes in my apt ceiling

I am building a 4'7''x4'7''x6'7'' grow room in my office. I want to beable to pull fresh air from outside, thru my aircooled reflector, and vent in to the attic. The problem is that I am no contractor. I recall seeing someones post It was very imformative they had step by step instructions but now i cant find it. Can someone help me out. Pics, advice, or just problems i may run into, anything will help. Thanks

dude make sure you're on the top floor if your putting holes in your apt lol. sally livesupstairs doesn't need a super hot stanky apartment y'know

Well first of we need a little more information like previously said, "are you on the top floor?" I assume you are cause you have an attic.

More questions would be possible alternatives if your leasing or renting.

Do you have inspections of your apartment would probly be the biggest issue.

What type of ceiling are you talking about? IE: drop ceiling, plaster, or sheetrock?

You mentioned its your office? Wouldn't consumers and/or employe's be a risk?

You can vent to almost anywhere outside of your grow area as long as you use proper fan and can filter(s). Just remember you want a negetive pressure in your grow to avoid leaky stanky. And more than likely will always run your exaust beings your in an apartment.

I must say you got brass nugs to grow in your office and/or apartment.

I assume home office now heres the issue. If its an apartment like structure then the management has access to the attic and they will go there as they have to do rental inspections once a year so your going have a chute right to your grow. Now if you vent up there it cant just be from the grow room to the attic or mold will come. If its from your enclosed lights your fine. Your not gonna want to bring air from the attic into the grow room either as thats bringing mites and fiberglass resin in so lets get some more info on this first but I think you have the wrong idea here

I agree with other poster. This may be a very poor idea...but I need more info on the location. What floor? Do they inspect the unit ea. month or 2x year? What about termite/bug/firesprinkler inspectors (they have to get in the attic space)?

Let us hear more.

yeah it is an apartment that i rent. My apt manager picks up half Os from me so she is in the loop with what I do. The ceiling is my exhaust point and I was going to drill A 4" in hole to outside which would be my intake. The ducting that would run from the ceiling is only for cooling from my reflector. I wanted to induce CO2 into the room. So i would have to buy a separte fan to put in my room which would be hooked up to a carbon filiter. The idea was to remove the heat from the whole office not just the grow space is it still a bad idea because that seems to b the general consensus.

What size ducting do you plan for your exaust?

If your going with 4" all the way, I would sugest maybe trying to exaust threw a dryer vent or maybe tie into hot water exaust vent with a damper to prevent backdraft off your heater.

I'd also advise maybe bigger duct work for exaust depending on the size of your room. But you mentioned exausting your whole apartment so I'd imagine about 8" ducting for exaust.

You never did mention the type of ceiling you have.

If you do stay with 4" all the way, I personaly wouldnt risk damageing a rented ceiling for something that small. Really depends on the ceiling type your working with I suppose. Drop ceiling being the easiest to work with and replace. Sheetrock/plaster with stuko on it being the hardest probly to repair and probly would need a contractor to do it for you since your unexperienced.

Have you figured out the size of your sealed grow room specs yet? Get the area of that. Then by general rule you want to "clear the air" in that room 5 times a min, so multiply it by 5. Then you know about the size of exaust fan and ducting you will need. Intake should be aproximately 2/3 of exaust so you don't out too much strain on your fans and also keep negative pressure to avoid leaky stanky.

If you pull intake for the growroom itself (excluding air cooled lights) you will somewhat be venting your apartment. Another plus to pulling intake from the apartment itself is more stable temps in your grow room due to thermostat control of the apartment.
