I am looking to move to Oregon!!!

After this november election, I have decided that my current state will always stay the same. Lame as hell!!! I bought my house like 3-4yrs ago and I am really thinking about selling it and moving to southern Oregon! My problem is that I have never even visited. I was able to base my decision on climate, pictures, and laws! I live in a flat desert state with relentless southern baptist republicans...
I am not really looking for a big city but more of a suburb with some acreage. When I bought my current house, I was approved for a $120,000 VA home loan. It is harder to find houses in this price range in ''cooler mmj'' states. With a VA loan, the house has to be move in ready and it cancels out like 80% of the homes that I have been looking at! I have looked at most of the major cities in oregon, and I like what I see... Shit, i would even like on the east side of the cascades to get away from where I am living!

anywhere south of portland down to ashland is about the same. I-5 corridor between the coastal range and the cascades is a lush green valley with beautiful dry summers and mild wet winters.

you can find a pretty cheap house with land anywhere from just north of salem down to the eugene/springfield area. then things get kinda empty for a while until you get to the central point/medford/ashland area.

the other option is to go higher and drier. go over the cascades and out to bend. it is a little colder and drier there.

there's really not much else in the state. anything else in the east is just as racist, religious, and backwards as what you're in now. the coast is windy, wet, and economically depressed.

Don't let Buck lead you off a cliff. The coast is like what I call paradise. It is perfect for growing weed indoors, when it is to hot for indoor grows in the valley in the summer it is nice and cool on the coast. I can grow DWC year round with no heat problems on the coast indoors. Just so you know. nitro.

and when 80 MPH gusts knock out your power in the winter, we remain untouched in the valley.

also, air conditioners exist.

lol perfect for indoors, huh? with that perfect 99% humidity? and week long power outages?:-?

OP
I'm not gonna blow smoke up your ass dude. :bigjoint: It's gonna be hard to find a home on acreage in a suburb of a city for 120k. maybe a modular home.

If you want to stay in a desert cliamate, you could check out the Bend area. Bend is expensive but it has cheap suburbs still. check out Redmond

I have never had my power go out for more than a few hours , most of the times it has gone out, its back on in a hour or so. It depends on where you live, and I have two generators if I need to use them ,but they just collect a lot of dust for the most part. We don't need air conditioners or snow shovels, thats why I call it paradise.

never had a blackout in the valley ever.

hope you don't get any brownouts that fry your lights. you know those things need to rest for a while if they get turned off.

Hello butsack.

I have never had 99% humidity, maybe standing in the rain out side. With my grow room the worst I have seen it is 60-75% but most of the time it is 50-60% and if I want to run my dehumidifier I can keep it between 40-50%. I have grown for years now with no heat or humidity problems. And my power has never been off for days where I live. I live about 150 feet from the ocean at high tide. I know of people that live out of town a long ways that have waited for there power to be turned back on for days. But not everybody lives that far out of town. just so you know.

HELLO NITRO -

hehe i was just givin u a hard time8), I did the damn thang for yrs around Astoria, and those were my issues :bigjoint:
I moved inland but still have the humidity commonly above 90. I'm shocked to hear you're on the Oregon coast and normally have 50% humidity without a dehumidifier

peace brother!:peace:

it's when your electric goes out for a very short amount of time. it will fry your lights.
Buck.

Is that a HPS or MH light problem? On my boat I use both types of lights and the only problems I have had with lights are the MH ones. I have some HPS 1000w lights that have worked for nearly twenty years and they still work, but the MH lights only seem to last for two years or less and they quit working. And every now and then we have a fuel filter plug up and the Gen set will sputter and die and the lights flicker but the HPS seem to work for a very long time in very violent conditions. From my experience.

Hey butsack.

I have a ten by ten tent with four 1000w HPS lights and three fans going. and it is inside a big shop the fans going through the lights kinda dry the air out some. I have two six inch fans going through the lights and a ten inch fan on top of that. The tent is sucked up so tight with all fans running I have to be carful when I unzip the door way so I don't rip my zipper apart. On some cold mornings I have unplugged my fans and the humidity went way up fast so I always leave my fans going even when it's cold. I started firing up the wood stove in the shop and leave all the fans going and that really drys it up when it is wet and cold out.

Where I live, the summers get 115F and stay. Tornados in the fall and spring... Last summer I had such a bad spitermite problem and I believe that the heat has a big part of that! It is def hard to have a good run during the summer. My A/C unit would fill 5gal during a 12hr cycle. I was thinking of a split seer unit, but I would rather move.
My family dont want me to leave, but I told them that they would rather visit me in another state rather than jail lol.
I keep to myself and dont sell! However, it would be nice to unload some extra crop at times, LEGALLY!
VA does not loan for modular homes... I would rather live an hour away from town and have acreage!!! I am a disabled vet with a fixed income. I would not really need to drive to a job everyday! I really think that I would like to get into farming. I have a good Ag college here and I was looking at using my GI Bill and get a horticulture degree... I do not trust the FDA and I want to grow my own, mutant free, crops and animals... I think that I would fit well with a hippy community or something. Here, we have alcoholics and meth heads. Nobody cares about nature or themselves here! Too many droughts to be a novice farmer here.
I am ready to sell my mustangs and see if I could push for a $150,000 home, because I have paid off some of my current home loan also. Thanks for the comments!!!

the only thing you'll find in that price range that is not modular or mobile with any amount of land will be a dump.

check outside of salem in the sticks, or go west a little into the coastal range. southern oregon does not have a lot of real estate so it drives up prices. salem is a bit of a shithole, which makes it cheaper.

Other considerations are if you want to be in a conservative area or a more liberal area...

Southern Oregon (except the eugene area, does that count as southern?) tends to be more conservative (especially the medford area) and a bit higher priced than you'd expect. Eastern oregon (at least here by the idaho border) is basically idaho in oregon, VERY conservative (the legalization measure failed here at 70% vs 30%) however, it's insanely cheap to live here, fairly safe from natural disasters (except possibly fires depending on where you are), gets very hot in the summer (116, but it is DRY, so a heat pump works fine), and isn't usually below the teens in the winter (usually in the high 20s to low 30s for a low). There's very little precipitation and it's a fair amount of farm land. As you get out of the main city (ontario) you can afford a bit of land with your house. However jobs are scarce. Portland is of course the liberal center. But housing prices are rather insane there unless you go to the ghetto or go out of town quite a ways (hillsboro or woodburn would be my suggestion there, maybe a bit further out).

Be warned however, out here (really anywhere west of colorado) houses are SMALL. If you're from the west this won't come as a shock, but if you come from the land where land is plentiful prepare for the shock.

Good luck on the move, if I could chose anywhere I'd be towards the coast, valley, or portland. But I moved for the spouse's gig, so here I am happy I at least get a little bit of oregon, and the prices out here are cheap like whoa... now if only the salaries didn't match ;)
