I can't beat the smell

I am on the verge of having to give up my first grow due to skunky odors. If I give you guys the particulars, maybe you can advise me:

I have a small grow box 36"wide by 40"tall by 20" deep. It is well sealed and their are 3 northern lights girls about a month into flowering. At the bottom of the cabinet there is a 4" hole with a computer fan rated around 25 cfm. On the top I have a bathroom exhaust fan rated at 50 cfm. All of the exhaust leaves the cabinet and passes through a homemade carbon filter. At first the carbon filter was little more than some chicken wire surrounded by a carbon filter for a air purifier. That did not work so I created a tube in a tube active charcoal filter as described many times here. After the exhaust exits the filter, it enters into my semi-finished garage.

While the smell is inperceptable from the outside, one step inside and it is pretty powerful. I've tried open dishes of PINESOL, odor gel and some volcanic rock. The work for about a day or so and not even that well.

Is the answer that I must vent the exhaust through the wall into the outside?

Any other ideas or is it simply impossible to get rid of all the skunky smell?

need a better carbon filter. i purchased a carbon filter for $120 and it takes away 95% of the smell and i had 13 bigbud plants in my cab. the other 5% was taken care of with pet odor absorbing blocks from walmart.

I read something about someone taking a 5 gallon bucket and cutting a hole in the lid, mounting a fan on the hole, filling the bucket up halfway with water and adding a cup of Febreeze I believe and letting it blow around the smell.

i 've got 9 Iarge orange skunk buds fIowering in my cIoset .6 weeks into Fiowering .reaI super skunk smeII. i just keep a can of febreeze by the front door. everytime that door beII rings i spray, haha. i have an exhaust fan mounted on the ceiIing bIowing toward the attic, in the cIoset grow room. i guess i need to Ieave it on contin. out the attic vent. do you have an attic above your ceiIing, mount a fan there pointing into the attic. exhaust it up there. i dont worry about it to much ,i keep febreeze pIug ins around Iiving room by door aIso. i never smeII nuthin, and i have 9-4 ft. taII skunk PIants in my room cIoset.

I plugged in one of those fabreeze plugin things and I think that really nuked the smell (with the combination of my carbon filter). We will see how long the fabreeze lasts......everything else was ineffective after a day or so.

By the way, the carbon filter that I made is essentially the same as one of those wolfman micro carbon filters.

thanks for all the other ideas.

I have been considering this thing for some time now and I appreciate your post. Is there any kind of special way that you put it in there? Happen to have and pics?

Bud I read somewhere (not that I believe eveything I read. lol) that ozone generators effect the plants. Not sure if its true, but I would rather have this in my cab than a big filter. And I plan on getting a skunky strain going in a few weeks my self.

What is the best solution if you dont have exhaust and intake ducts? The 5 Gallon bucket with water and febreze and a fan sounds pretty good, and maybe also put some Glade plug-in air things in too? Are there any other cheap solutions that I can use?.... To use a carbon filter do you have to fan the exhaust and intake ducts?

Ya I guess oxidation of THC breaks it down. Probably what the ozone generator produces. I would like to see the effects on bud growth with/without an ozone gen.
