I Did my First Ice Water Extract Today!

Ok guys so i had roughly 1/4lbs of sugar leaves and pop corn buds of ak47 x blue berry. some of it was from an older harvest so we kept them separate and frozen them.

We used homemade ice, had lots of it, and we bought 10 gal of RO water.

The extraction took place in the basement where the temperature never got over 50*F and the RH is right about 30%

We made a drain bucket to hold the bubble bags, and set the bubble machine on a table right next to it.

We first filled the machine up 1/4 way with water and ice.

Then took our older dry trim and layered it in the work bag with ice

Then submerged the work bag in the machine and continued to add ice and water till the bag was fully submerged, the machine was a little more than half way full.

Set the timer for 6 min and let it spin away, after 2 minutes we noticed a lot of frothy white on top which was good.

When the timer stopped we let the water drain into the bubble bags (we used 7 bags 25,45,73,90,120,160,220)

Begin to pull each bag up one at a time, while the water was draining. Used a pump sprayer with ice water to spray down the sides of the bubble bags and collect all the trichs in the middle to be able to scoop easily.

Take the bag over to the collection station and begin to scoop out the hash from the first bag with a tablespoon. After scooping out the hash we laid it in a clump on a pressing screen on top of some paper towels to help wick the water out.

We repeat our steps for all bags.

Now we repeat our process with the next batch of fresh frozen sugar leaves and pop corn bud. We put all 3/4oz (roughly) into the machine, i think we should have split it into two separate runs.

The machine was up to the FULL line after we had filled it up with water and ice. Turned the timer to 6 min and let it do its thing.

Now we drain into the bags again, but this time we decided to fill up the machine wit more water and ice and do another shorter 4 min run while the other bags were still draining.

After 4 min we drain into the bags again.

We noticed alot of hash on the 90 micron i believe it was. THe hash looks pretty good the yield looks good too.

Now its just sitting in the basment temps around 45-50*F with RH at 30% we will leave it there for roughly 24 hours and then start he microplaning/drying/curing process.

Heres some wet pics for now

(im sorry these pics are all random)

Rinse the bag and collect any left over trichs and then on to the next bag.

You really wouldn't call that extract. Just hash. Yummy hash. Full melt or bubble if you will but hash all the same. Yummy hash.

Good work. Keep it green. Peace.

looks great! I did my first batch the dry ice way, but it seems to me people are getting MUCH better results with ice water extraction, so i cant wait to try this on my next harvest!

oh i figured i was extracting thc glands from plant matter, ok well did my first ice water hash today, happy? :bigjoint: Thanks for the good work comment.

Hey thanks alot for the positive feed back.

Any one have any tips on Microplanning, drying, and or curing the hash to make it full melt

looks very similar to mine, and I dont think you can cure it to make it melt... mine didnt melt and it looks very similar to yours... basically very compact, pressed, organically extracted crystal/kief from the leaves and buds. same stuff that comes from the grinder.. except a bit purer than that stuff, but not quite full melt hash. same concept though as im sure you know. I think it depends on the strain right from the bat, and how long you mix it. a very very very short rinse is usually required for full melt. like a 2-3 minute rinse.. clean bags.. then rinse again harder. I could be wrong, but thats what it seems like from what ive read around here. you want just the heads of the tric for full melt.. its totally quality over quantity with full melt. rinse too hard and it could break the trichome stem off as well, which isnt bad, but the majority of the active ingredients are in the head of the trichrome, so if you can extract only the head, you will get an oily, shiny, sticky, melty, stinky, beautifully delicious full melt hash that is very potent and tasty.

you are right about that , next time we will do a short 3 min wash, then drain filter and scrape the bags, then do another longer wash just to get the rest of the stuff out of it.

read the post i posted you....do 9-15 minute washes....if its a SOLID Frozen brick do a quic 9 minute wash to break the brick down (just toss the whole think in the work bag). D&C then do another 15 minute run to get the rest...after its done washing put a Microscope or a jewel loop to it to see if you need a final 3rd wash.

ya i microplaned them the best i could, some dry out faster than others, yes i use the paper towel method under the pressing screen, then when the pattys of hash were not leaving any more water on the paper towel i ran them through the micro plane some were grittier than others. But heres the the stuff before i "pocket cured" it . The stuff smells and taste great, just doesnt bubble that much and doesnt look to pleasing to the eye

And heres the 90 micron after a 24 hour pocket cure

. Used a pump sprayer with ice water to spray down the sides of the bubble bags and collect all the trichs in the middle to be able to scoop easily.
You need to wash the hash after you get it collected with the pump sprayer. Pull the bag down over the bucket to make the screen taught. Wash the hash from side to side a few times until you see it clean-up. I put ice in the pump sprayer and you don't need to use the RO water until you are finished cleaing, so I use two pump sprayers. If you don't have RO, use distilled for the final rinse.

One other thing that I never see mentioned-Keep everything clean. Clean bucket(s), clean bags, clean ice, clean water, clean sprayers, clean floor, ceiling, hands, clothes, no dogs, cats, etc. Watch what you are doing, looking for foreign material.

You definately are off to a good start!

ok so wash the hash with the pump sprayer. got it. I did use ice in the pump sprayer and all i have is RO water so should i be using distilled water? or will RO water work jsut fine, Matt rize uses RO water so i figured i would be good.

And people probably never mention the clean part because its pretty self explanatory, you want a clean working environment for clean hash.

Thanks for the tips and the positive comments

No you don't need distilled, RO is just fine.

You said, "Used a pump sprayer with ice water to spray down the sides of the bubble bags and collect all the trichs in the middle to be able to scoop easily." This is not exactly what I was talking about. I am talking about moving the pile of hash back and forth across the taught screen a few times, and using like a half gallon per screen. The finer the screen, the longer his process takes.

Clean may be obivous to you, but not to anyone else that I have ever helped.

From you close-up picture it looks as thought it needed to be cleaner. Do you have a hand held microscope?

ok i will do that next time thanks for the tip, yes i have a microscope and yes theres tons of plant matter in my hash but not debris dirt or hair, i worked in a very clean enviorment, if you are saying my hash is dirty because there is plant matter and tricome stalks then u are right.

Yes, that was what I was talking about. That is why I spent so much time on the washing of the hash. You will not (usually) be able to wash dirt, hair, etc. thru your bags.
