I have a "problem"

I am running out of room! I have to much of a green thumb it seems... and have to manny plants and not enough room to flower them all in. Just how many plants can I flower under a 400 w hps? right now I have 6 but I have like 6 more that are ready to go in as well... if I added some floros could I add more plants to it?

I have a few options. I have a 400 w hps and a 100 w hps and two 12 inch t-5 floros. right now I have the 100w and the t-5's doing the vegging and the 400 doing the flowering... I could put the 100 in with the 400 and get some more floros for the vegging chamber... I don't want to spend to much more money just yet so don't want to get a bigget light... that will come in the future... I know this is a rambling post... my bad

More light equals more bud. Too many plants equals less bud. I know plenty of growers that claim growing a single plant beneath a 400w should yield the same if not even more than growing four. Of course you would need a bigger container and a longer veg period for the single plant.

I did something very similar when I first started. I had plants everywhere benath 1200w of light. I started with 80 seeds. lol. I can't believe I bought that many seeds, a pack of 10 would have sufficed.

I still do it now, a little. Although now I'll just shove plants in a corner. I have 10 hydro plants growing that have hardly had any light all the way through flower. Poor bastards... lol. Little skinny things with nice sticky colas on them. Anyway, if you can't get extra light just concentrate the light on your best plants and leave the others to do their own thing in a corner somewhere.

funny this site is so helpful. everytime im at a certain phase i click this website an someone has already just asked the same question that that has been worrying at that time.

This morning i woke up to top off my resuvuar. should have done it last night but drank about 24 onces of vodka and fell asleep on the couch by 8 pm

anyway hi story short, i went in there and my 6 plants are on about day 6 of flowering. I have kept them under the metal halide for now to avoid streching.

Well these things must be 20" - 24" inches now and its looking kinda crowded these under that HPS.

Its also looking dark underneath.....well needless to say as any responsible,well ajusted, & very strong and good looking concened grower would be, I have been pondering this issue.

I actually had a dream last night that my plants all deflated because I took too long to top the res off (I guess drinking last night and missingthe res change triggered the dream)and they turned into like flat green seran rap looking leaves. (very sad dream)

well anyway I have a real shitty reflector that came with the budget 400W HM / HPS

is six too much plants??? I still have to sex these babies so I expect to clear some out.

whats ideal. I wish only to have to grow one crop a year and make it last that long. I estimate a will need more than a pound maybe enough to consume about 2 ounes a month to be safe.

Hopes.....best wishes.......stern advice.......strong reprimand........helpful sugestions.....crude remarks........snobish assertions ......Anything!!!...... please!!! throw them out there.

even insluts will be apriciated if thats all I can get\.

But the main reason for this mess of a question is How Many?

can we fix an average number for a 400HPS. I think we can do it!!! straight question with no variable included to help!!! how many!!! under the 400w.

Ok say someone had you hooked up to a lie detector and had a gun to your head an said. How many plants should, could, & would you put under one 400 Watt HPS as a "ballpark figure" and you had 5 seconds to answer before he pulled the trigger.

You could do one plant...or up to 8 (1 per sq ft.) It just depends on your style and how you want to approach it all.

One plant would be bush/treee growing style

8 plants would be a SOG.

Nobody really knows what you should do but you.

I just wanted someone to tell me ballpark cuz I have 6 plants in about 3-4 square feet and I wanted to make sure I was giving my babies enough light. Im a very good father :mrgreen:

looks like a few may be males though as some of them are a lot taller than others. I wont be so bad getting males. In the furture I mightjust go with 4 females in about 3-4 square foot.

I gotta give props to skunkushybrid as he remained defiant till the end!!! even with a gun to his head!!!. he is a real soldier.

I wish Iran tried to take some of our guys instead of the brits. Im sure our guys would have atleast snuck a hidden middle finger at them during thier propeganda filiming:mrgreen:


EDIT: I just realized skunkushybrid is a brit!! well they should have sent him out there with me and we woulda been dancing circles around those revolutionary Gaurds.

I would tell them when my birthday was if they asked me any questions, and skunkushybrid would have only uttered these words whenever they put him on camera.

They would ask: "You strayed into Iranian waters didnt you!!!!"

and he would say: "Depends on the width of your pots."

"Did you stay in our waters??!!! admit it!!!!

Didn't mean to come across rude, but after thinking about your question carefully it was the only answer I could come up with.

If you are growing in 2 gallon containers then 6 is about your limit, although if you are growing in 1 or 2 litre containers you might fit 15.

Some people believe that sog gives the best yield overall, per metre squared.

if i had to decide on a specific number of plants on one light with optimal reflectivity throughout the space i would say not to put more than six plants on a 400 w system. i have a 400w metal halide with three plants on it.

well thanks for all the input... I am off the next two days so i will re-configure my grow space... I am trying to get to the SOG method but I didn't understand that you put the clones in right after they rooted... and now all my clones are big... so I figure I will finish budding as many as I can and leave two or three mommas in the veg chamber and when I get to the point where most of my plants are finished flowering I will try again with the SOG method... wow I love to learn new stuff
