For a time you will be its mother. At some point you will need to teach it Hide (food) and seek.... always loads of fun. I'd be interested to know what your cat thinks about it?!...:lol:

my stepmom found a dead mother opossim in the road with 5 babies and took the babies and raised them and they acter sortof like ferrets...kept them in a cage outside and they had a little house thye went into during the day...they kindof stunk cuz of the poop...but she fed them dogfood and they were kinda neat but its agenst the law if caught with them...sorta like growing pot lol

I read a story once about a guy who raised a baby raccoon he found. When the raccoon got older he released it into the wild. But apparently he did not take him far enough, and came home one one day to find that the raccoon had dug holes through the walls of his house to get inside.

So if you decide to raise him and release him into the wild, be sure to take him pretty far away.

I think they are pretty hideous creatures, but I am an animal lover too, so I'd probably do the same thing I guess. I did find a full grown possum in my backyard once that started hissing at me, so I introduced him to the water hose.

i put him in a cat carrier and played with him for a day. i put him in our patio in the carrier with the door open, last night. left some food nearby. i went back a few hours later to check on him. as i walked up he ran outta the carrier and hid behind the dryer. when i went back this morning all the food was gone. :)

Just care for it as much as you can, if it starts to get wild on you you may have to release it somewhere.

when i first saw this thread i dismissed it, fdd has pit hair big deal. then i read it and you do actually have an opposum, i understand why you feel so bad, i have a thing for animals too. when i was young i found 2 baby squirels on the ground under a tree, i almost stepped on them. my dad and i took care of them untill they died from being kept in the house

id call animal control but you seem to have gotten close to it and i dont blame you, he is cute. so from your last post about him he seems to be more independent, hiding from you, taking all the food and hiding it for later. if you keep taking care of it it will never leave, but i couldnt drive it into the woods and abandon it either. im imagining that movie where a family took care of a big foot and had to relese it into the wild

he's been released. we are just making sure he has plenty of food. my wife went shopping and got all kinds of stuff. i think she even got an overripe mango. :)

just found another one. i have a small kitchen sized rubbermaid garbage can outside my backdoor. i use it for yard trash, like hose wrappers or whatever. i heard a noise. looked i the can and there's another opossum. this one was slightly larger and had a full row of baby teeth. he was rather jumpy, as well. i got him out of the trash and let him go in the yard.

mothers can have up to 15 babies per litter. we have at least 2 mothers here who both just had babies. i may need animal control here pretty soon. :shock:
