i was 16 i didnt know any better

and i was paid my wages
I was 17, probably wouldn't have known any better if my grandmother hadn't told me to file with them.

And the wages was just an example of how the labor board will tax an employer mad money for violating labor laws.

But oh well, nothing to be done about it now.

My first job.... they wouldn't give me the day off so that I could take my mom to the hospital for a very life-threatening acute situation that required immediate surgery. They told me to show up or be fired, so I told them to shove their measly 15 hrs. a week job where the sun don't shine.

Fast forward a couple of weeks.... they still haven't given me my pay check. I keep calling and/or showing up. Nothing. Around two weeks after that, they said that they "lost" my pay check, and I'd have to wait another couple/few weeks for them to reprint it.

My mom got on the phone and said, "I'll simply call the labor board." Amazingly, they had my "reprinted" pay check when we arrived there, in less than half an hour.

Why didn't you go at the time?

My first job, the company shut down all of a sudden, one day we all got a call from our manager saying not to come to work. They never paid us, and the last paychecks we had all received the week before bounced.

So my employer owed me like...$400, I THINK, maybe even less. Went to the labor board, filed a complaint and had a hearing and was awarded over $4,000 for them not paying me that $400.

i had a somewhat similar incident.

i was doing property maintenence for this guy over the summer when i was 17. he told me to take the big dump truck up to the house to get some shit and come back. i told him i didnt have a licence at the time and he said it was all on his property so it didnt matter. i told him i wasnt comfortable driving the big dumper...he said do it anyway.

long story short i backed the dumptruck hitch through(not into.....THROUGH. you could look into the truck via giant hole!) the door of his new truck. he refused to pay me and demanded i work off the damage. the next day instead of going to work i made some calls, got some papers in the mail, sent them off, and the dude had to pay me every cent owed.:mrgreen:I Win.
