Declawing is a tough choice. I mean, I cannot imagine having my fingernails torn out, but I also hate having my furniture fucked up. Either way I have to agree, don't do it to an adult, they will hate it and probably you. a kitten might forget.

Is that what emory boards are for? Like, you get one, and the cat doesn't tear shit up anymore?

Yeah, you can teach them to scratch one thing. It can be a post or these cardboard things or a log, etc... Something they can sharpen their claws on.

I have one cat with claws and one cat without claws. The younger one has claws. And when the older one is in the mood he can kick the other cats ass...

They have teeth too

Added: I dunno about deadly unless they are jumping out of your arms/lap in a panic.

CATS are DANGEROUS.......they are getting a Union started and are after humans.................saw a big Yellow Tabby other day with a AK47 mumbling someing about Throw my ass out in the cold will ya...............I hear the cows are supporting them passively by farting alot more than normal

Declawingis cruel, they cut off part of his toes, and this leaves him unable to fend for himself should god forbid, something happen to you, like happened to many of the owners of cats that live on the street now.

Agreed, declawing is super mean. I have 3 cats, all 3 of them have claws... and they all scratch... You just have to teach them to scratch on one specific item not whatever the fuck they please. imo someone shouldn't have a cat if they cant handle a little scratching now and then because thats part of it. and ANC is right they clip part of their toes so that the nail doesnt grow back.... because obviously if you clip your cats nails they grow back.... but they have to cut their toes.

I agree, there is no truly humane way to declaw a cat so please do not do it. This is correct they do essentially snip the entire top of the toe off from the first knuckle not just the claw. Not only does it leave the cat defenseless but it also throws off their balance and stance as well.

Good points. I think I'll be going to the Shelter to pick up a Tiger Tabby within the week, and I don't think I'll be declawing it.

Just remember to listen to what the cat is trying to tell you... if you feed it and it only eats a tiny bit of its food... then there might be a good chance that it doesn't like the food your giving it... And to make sure you keep the litterbox clean, this one is critical.... because most cats are snobs and if the litterbox is too dirty for there liking (some cats are really picky) then they will opt out on the litterbox and poop in your shower or whatever.... Find food they like, give them fresh water and keep the litter clean... and play with him.... and you will have one happy kitty who loves the shit out of you!

As far as the cat goes, do they bury the litter in the box? I dunno. I mean, I could google this, but I prefer actively learning from a conversation more.

Some do, some don't... It really depends... I've had cats who after they use the litter scratch around in it for like 5 minutes to bury it... or some cats just throw a bit of litter on it and be done with it... and some don't even at all. If you only have one cat, you probably only have to change the litter every 2 maybe even 3 days depending how often the cat goes.. but I have 3 cats and two litter boxes... both need to be changed daily.

Oh wow, that'd be a lot of changing! Once every day doesn't sound so bad though. How much am I looking for in medical bills on this cat?

If you get it from an animal shelter (it should) come completely spayed / neutered and with all its shots. Cat will probably run you about $100 bucks at the shelter, but its far cheaper than buying a cat and spending the money for the shots and the neutering... because that's easily around $250 - $300 dollars.

If you clean the litter box daily, and you only have one cat... It will take you no longer than 2 minutes of upkeep a day to keep the smell away and your kitty happy

Many years ago I trained my cat to go on the toilet! They used to sell a clear plastic cover you could put on the toilet seat. You put some kitty litter in it and the cat would go there. Gradually you would cut a hole in the middle and make it bigger and bigger until it was as big as the toilet seat. I think it took about a month.

I find Siamese are very "one person" cats...not really as much of a family pet as most. The two Siamese I have had were very devoted to just the family member they picked and could care less about everyone else.

The pound is the best place to find a pet. Orange tabby's are great...both tough and sweet...the two I have had were smarter than most. My last tabby (I miss him so) used to keep an eye on our dog...if he got out of the yard the cat would come tell us and then follow him around until we gathered him back up. The dog would be in peoples backyards and the cat would stay in the street infront of the house he was near so we could spot him. Such a sweet kitty Mr. Fatty was.
