Firstly i dont mean to be harsh sometimes it comes across like that.

there are a few simple things to consider.

LIGHTS
TEMPERATURE
VENTILATION

these 3 things will help you to create an area for growing.

The biggest thing about designing a grow is budget??? How much do you have?

This thread may help you out. it is a motherbox i designed and built as you will see i even included drawings of my idea.

it will definitly help if we knew your budget man. to have a good start with a new grow i would recommend getting a grow tent, I myself have a 4X4X7 tent and it works great. start off with a 400w CFL light. get a ph meter, you should start off with soil, i dont recommend miracle grow. you dont need nutrience right off the bat, but i recommened to get superthrive for once the plant grows a tiny bit. u need to get a fan sooner or later. and u can start off with platic cups but then once they start growing u need to move them to a 3-5 gallon bucket, and get some drainers for underneath them. make sure the tempature is around 75f. thats really all u need to know for the begining man

Nobody really answered my questions directly and kept asking what's my budget...sooooo
lol I'm really poor and only have about a $20 maybe $80 if I work some magic tricks.
That is why I am going to extremely consider a DWC setup because I already have basically everything I need for it.

Does anyone know if I am supposed to put anything in the net holder/cup of the DWC?
Soil, clay, or what?

Oh and rene, you live in WA, I just came from there and is mold a problem for your crops?
I know mold is a big issue up there.

Hi, I am decently new to the game and want in.
I have read hundreds of articles and spent many times attempting to grow.

I have just about nothing now but some ok soil and random house hold stuff, oh and some random, unidentified seeds.

I want to know what to do, how to start, what to use, where to do it, and if I should now that it is almost November?

I'm on the central West Coast of the US and would love some :leaf:s
first time i was like you. bag seed , regular soil from my backyard ...
germinate your seeds in a wet tissue paper (this it takes around 3 days) then put them in dirt at 6-7 milimeters under the surface and cover with a small amount of soil
vor veg you could use a regular fertilizer for green plants (first 2 weeks don't use annything) , for flowering i use a orchid fertiliser.
for the beggining you could use some fluorescent lights (around 100 W) and when the plants grow at about 8 cm buy a hps. use the hps for veg untill the plant reaches about one third of the height you would like to have at the end.

i hope that u understand. i don't :))
good luck

Again i am really sorry but have you tried searching for information relating to a DWC grow?

Amazing what can come up when you type into google "how to setup a small DWC grow"

https://www.greenpassion.org/index.php?/topic/2055-the-closet-dwc-grow-guide/

Just adapt it to your situation.

Do you take things on board that you read ?

Or does it just go straight over your head?

I do take in things I read and I just read that article you linked to.
I already knew most of that stuff.

So what type of medium would you guys suggest I use for the DWC and CLF setups I'm building?

P.S. Happy Halloween!

That is an extremely nice mother box!
I'll have to try it some other day.
Have you written any books?
Probably should ;)

Feel free to read my posts and the threads they are contained in. Other than some extremely technical subjects that are not included, you will have a fair idea of what type of pot op you want to go with. When your in progress everyone will be more than happy to jump in if you have a problem.

TacoM - use hydroton (expanded clay) in your net pots, it's cheap, clean and reusable. With that type of budget soil, cfl's and organics are likely the route. Check Craigslist, garage sales and the like to find the goodies you need cheap. I would recommend this book over anything Jorge has put out just because it contains less anecdotal information. Before multi-thousand watt, multi-thousand $$$ grows I see recommended all the time we just germ'd our seeds in a paper towel and put them in a pot full of dirt. Be creative and do your research, understand the plant and you'll understand that light, water, air and careful attention are the critical ingredients to a successful grow. Otherwise it's easier to offer specific help if your question is specific. Tons of great info here and out on the web but also tons of bad info, the more you read the better able you are to tell the difference.
