Hey brother 4:20'ers. I have a new set up and just need some advice. Can any of you help me with a few question's I have? I've attached photo's to help with question. Thanks

1.) I put these two seed's in the dirt on Friday night 1/13/2012. I did the 24 hour soak seed method. They broke through the dirt on Monday the 16th. This is how they look after 5 days of pure light! They are about 2 inches tall under a 250 watt MH light. Is the light to close?

2.) Is it ok to put a thin layer of play sand on top of the dirt to control some gnats that I can now see?

3.) My room temp stay's between 78 and 83, is this ok?

4.) My humidity is between 36% and 45%, should this be higher?

5.) How old should they be before I change into a bigger pot?

Thanks to anyone who will take the time to answer any of these questions.

1) There is much debate, but IMO you should give your plants some dark time. I run my veg lights 18 on 6 off.
2) That light distance looks ok unless it is much hotter underneath it than the room temp you mention.
3) I don't like sand for the gnats. I use mosquito dunks. You just soak em for 24 hours, then water with the water you soaked them in. 2 applications 7 days apart usualy eliminates the gnats.
4) Ideal humidity for veg is 50-60%
5) They should have a well formed root-ball, or it will collapse when you try to transplant.

Good luck grower

They actually look ok for their age. So although I usually suggest cfl in seedling, it should be ok. Just not too close.

If you see gnat's this early you got some issues. What medium is that they are in? Play sand is effective for fungus gnats but you should verify that is what they are.

Your temps and rh seem fine. When you see root tips in the drainage holes is the time to transplant. Best of luck!

Nice setup bro. Lights look good since they are seedlings, but generally get it as close as possible without burning them. They love the light just can't handle the heat. That fan you got in the corner should help with the heat. Get some neem oil and spray yo babies. It smells like shit and you only need a little bit dissolved in water. If you got bugs this early round keep using it. It works best to prevent. Temps and humidity vary by grower. Just don't let it get too humid as to avoid mold. Temps also vary your plants will be able to handle various temps just try to keep it constant. Don't go from lights on at 84f to lights out at 50f. Personally I don't know any good tips to judging transplanting times. I think you just get that with experience. Last one I transplanted I did just in time the roots were At the bottom of the bucket trying to break through. I had. I idea until I saw it.

Change your light to 18/6 and move the light up until you get a couple sets of leafs.

Seedlings don't need that intense of light.
