Hi

I keep tripping the mains switch - i have a 30 amp breaker but when i plug a fan into my bedroom wall or extension cable it pops and switches the mains off???

yeah it just flicks down - i just plugged the same fan in that tripped it last time (after setting it all up) to find that the fan doesn't work now?

- i think i found the culprit, i don't know if this happened when i plugged it into the wall in the first place but it certainly looks as though it needs a bit of re-wiring now

from the wire colors,I am guessing you are in UK? dont most cords have a fuse built into them? is that the problem?
sorry but I am from the states and our electric is different here

can I ask a question here someone might be able to help or comment on
my inline fan sometimes kicks my gfi I have even if it's the only thing running.
I asked htg about this and they said this is common with gfi switches and induction motors with starting amps being large and running amps being quite smaller or something like this. I didn't fully understand.
now after seeing this thread, are they just trying to get away with selling cheap shit, or would something or could something possibly wrong with my fan?
thanks

Is your inline fan 2 or 3 wire? a gfi trips when current is sensed in the ground wire of a 3 wire sys(Hot-Neutral-Ground). Motors don't trip gfi's (swimming pool pumps, etc.)stray currents do.

im not sure on the can fan. it's the lower end 6" model from htg supply. Also I'm using their 6" standard lower end inline fan. Not impressed with them at all. I think they are 3 wire. What would I want to look for to correct this? I'm on 110V system. I have 2 circuits going to my small grow room I"m building. Each one is 20 amps although For what ever reason the gfis I have on there are only 15 amp. I guess I wanted to make sure (for safety) THat I don't run close to my max amp on the breaker box. Not sure if this is the best way to achieve that.
thanks for the replies and sorry if this is thread jacking or not appropriate in this thread.

GFIs r standard 15a. You need to look for the N and G to be connected(shorted), if it was the Hot and Ground it would not work at all. Why r u using GFIs? If it was u that ran the circuts did you tie the N and G to the same bar at the panel?

Wiring was done correctly. On my end. I'm using GFIs incase the basement and grow room flood. I'll check out my fans outside of work. Like I said it doesn't happen a lot. I think I have seen it trip 3 times. Is there some reason I wouldn't want to run GFIs? This is their proper use no?
