so im smoking on some strawberry cough this wonderful A.M. and i had an idea cross my mind and wanted to see if others thought it was do-able or a waste of time.

Often i see people making the diy lightbulb (crackpipe lol) "vaporizers" and with the holidays right around the corner and given my current financial situation i cant afford a good vaporizer (and dont want to blow $ on a chinese knockoff with potential lead or whatever) so the idea came to me.

idea:
1. glass jar/bottle (something that can tolerate high temps...but im sure whats ideal for this..something pyrex?)

2. lid/top with a hole in it

3. straw goes in the hole

4. bud goes in the bottom of the glass jar/bottle.

5. place bottle on an electric skillet (the type that have temp dials on them)

6. put the dial to the temp needed for vaping (ive never used a vape so im not sure what the correct temp range is)

7. wait for the vapor to fill the bottle/jar

8. suck through the straw.
good idea? doable? crap? gtfo? fuk off & die? quick and simple? safe? effective?

make sure you use tempered glass, otherwise its not very safe at all. Also you might need a second hole in the lid if the straw is tightly fitted in the first hole so you have air flow and not a vaccum.

i forgot about the 2nd hole! lol i woulda figured that out soon as i tried 2 use it. lol

do you think this concept would actually work? i figured the skillet would help control the temps (instead of a lighter which can cause the mj to actually burn like when smoking)

would it be better to preheat the skillet then put the bottle/jar of mj on it or put it on then turn it on so the glass heats gradually???

i was thinking something like maybe a yankee candle glass jar..i imagine those can take high temps since after all theres a candle inside it! idk though

Pyrex would be heat safe, but I can't think of a pyrex that has a sealable lid.

Negative, not tempered. Also be careful with the skillet...those thermostats arent very accurate and are usually off by +-50F

well that is generally the idea. i might just buy that (or similar) and use a skillet instead of a lighter/candle because the only real serious downside to ghetto crackpipes (like the lightbulb method) is the fact you're using a flame of some sort to get vapor which isnt fool-proof since its open to human error.

i figure with a skillet once i get the setting correct each time it'll be easy to use thereafter.

yeah thats where i got hung up on that idea. maybe i can "make" a lid of some sort? what materials would be best to use (health is a big concern for me so i wouldnt want to use anything considered potentially dangerous to inhale. i know a straw isnt that "Safe" in the event on melting/inhaling the materials used to make the straw but i guess i could always get parts from a REAL vape and use it in place of the straw. plus the straw would be so high up im not sure id be inhaling any of it.

thanks for the tip. any ideas on a good glass product to experiment with?

any new ideas on what to use for the glass piece of this????

im not sure what i can use for a glass jar/bottle than can tolerate high temps (i figure something that can handle at least 400 degrees since thats how hot most skillets get at their highest setting and will give me lots of headroom even though ill never obviously set it to 400 to vape lol just rather be safe than sorry)

Sounds like more trouble than it's worth, especially with the risk of shattering glass involved.

It's a plausible idea, but one with many variables to consider.

As mentioned above, it may be more of a hassle then the end result would justify.

well if i can find the correct glass to use i dont imagine it will be much trouble at all.

put mj in glass jar/bowl/bottle. put mj inside. put a top on (or make one if need be). heat skillet. put on skillet. wait till vapor...suck out vapor and repeat.

that sounds like a better deal than buying a volcano lol.

i just wanted to know if anyone had a decent idea for what i should use as far as glass goes. the rest sounds simple enough.

You can always try an Erlenmeyer flask, with rubber stopper.

The rubber stopper can come with 1 or 2 holes...meaning you can use your "straw" and have a choke hole at the same time, evading the vacuum issue while keeping the smoke contained

oh duh! why didn't i think of that? lol

what's the rubber stopper for? just curious as i must be slightly dense at the moment lol
Because you can't just put the flask to your lips and suck. A stoned person trying to do this with a hot piece of glass would be tragicomic.

oh i see. i wasnt aware they can come with 2 holes. ill look around. if i find one with 2 then this might be the easiest/cheapest DIY vape ever (next 2 the old fashioned crackpipe method). i already have the skillet so all id really be out is the cost of the Erlenmeyer flask and the rubber stopper. not bad at all

i didnt mean i was thinking id just suck straight from this hot glass! lol. it just didnt cross my mind. after i got the glass i would have then starting looking at what i have/can make that i could use as a cover and still use the straw or whatnot.
