I need help Germinating.

Ok well first of all I am a total newb at growing marijuana, So please don't down talk me. After doing some research I found that Northern Lights was an easy grow for a first time grower. So I got online ordered some Feminized Northern Lights Seeds. I received the 5 seeds in about 6 days. I have also done a decent amount of research on how to germinate. So I first off started with the paper towel process. I got 3 paper towels wet put 2 on on a plate, then put the seed in the middle, and put the last wet paper towel on the seed. I then covered the plate with another plate and placed it under my bed. Its been 48 hours and I put a little bit more water on the paper towels. But nothing has happened. The seed isnt even starting to pop and I see no sign of germination.. So after looking around I decided to try another method. I took another seed, and put it in a foam cup about 1/2 an inch down in some organic potting mix. I then watered the grow medium so that it is moist. I now have it sitting under a light in my closet with the fan on, its about 76 degrees in there.. So I now have one seed in medium, and the other seed in wet paper towels with a plate covering it. How long should it take for either seed to pop? I'm also having major trouble finding a suitable light for my closet. I dont want to spend 200$ on a light. I just want a decent cheap light, and wal-mart doesn't have shit. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. I dont want my 50$ on seeds to be wasted.

6 paper towels is what you use, also you can just drop them in a cup of water, and wait until they open.

What I do to Germinate:

Obtain a small glass (shot glass). Fill it with water. Let sit until room temp. Drop your seeds into the glass. Store glass in a WARM and humid environment. I use my attic (95F and 70% RH). Keep them in there until they settle to the bottom or have cracked. Then carefully take them out and place in a warm moist paper towel in a cup. Place cup back in the warm environment until a taproot emerges. Plant 1/4-1/2 inch into warm moist soil and put a light on it 24/0. Germination: 100%

I am new to growing but I got my seeds from Nirvana, and I soaked them in distilled water for 7 hrs in a cup then put them in paper towles, kept it miost, dark, and around 80 deg. 9 of the 10 seeds germinated in less than 16 hrs. My buddy also got his seeds the same time and his took over a week to germinate! He was using regular tap water and put them in the window ledge.

I also ordered my seeds off nirvana. Ok well I think I am going to take my seed out of the potting soil, and put it in a shot glass with room temp water, and put it in a dark room. Once they crack I will then put them in a warm paper towl, back in the dark room! Hopefully I get some seeds popping here not to long! Any suggestions on the best type of light to get? Oh and I tested the Ph of the water I have and its a little high but not to bad should that be a problem?

The seeds in paper towel, make sure the paper towel stays moist. You should be able to squeeze water out of it. It can take a while, so give it more time. Also under your bed is not a great place. If you have something that stays warm (not hot, just warm), place it on that. You want it around 80-85 degrees, if it's too hot put a book between the source and the plate. Up higher is better, the lower you are, the cooler it is. You can germinate in soil as well, the key again is keep it moist, and warm. The fan will dry things out a lot faster, so I'd either not use it, or check your soil moisture every few hours or less. 1/2" might be a little deep, usually 5-10cm is all that's suggested. There is a whole science to soil, and what is best for germinating isn't necessarily what you grow in when they are larger. The consistency has to be firm enough to prevent the roots from drying out, but loose enough to allow roots to permeate and reach sources of oxygen. It's also possible that you might have a bad batch, in which case contact the people you got them from. The longest I will bother trying to get a seed to germinate is usually two weeks. Sometimes letting them dry out and then giving it another go works, but the success rate goes way way down.

As far as lights, you are really going to be constraining yourself by your light choice. $200 for a decent HID will make a huge difference in your crops, and you could probably build some DIY CFL's for seedlings and still stay in (or close to) that budget. Less than that, and you might look into t5ho's, but the cheap way to go is in CFL's. On neighborhood trash pile days you can oftentimes find all sorts of fixtures that people are throwing away, and the bulbs are pretty cheap.

OK thanks for the help! I just put one seed in a shot glass full of water, and I have another seed in a moist paper towel between to plates. They are in a dark room about 80 degrees. I will check on them in about 24 hours see if things have progressed! And the thing about a big ass light is.. This is a closet grow room in my house, I have 2 other roommates that would flip shit if they knew I was growing weed in my closet. So its not to spacious for big lights.

I forgot to mention that the seeds should stay in the water at least 24 hours or until cracked. Dont take them out early.

How the hell are you going to hide the smell! LOL You can use CFL's and there is a forum here https://www.rollitup.org/cfl-growing/ for that info.

Yeah for sure! I had another question! I ordered 5 Feminized seeds, and say that 4 of 5 germinate. I pay close attention to them throughout the entire grow process, and take very good care of them. How much would they yield? Grown indoors, watching PH in water, switching the medium to keep it fresh, and Changing my light cycles when I think I should? How much will my 4 plants yield? Also when is a good time to switch the lighting. I have read you keep the light on constantly 24 hours a day for 2 weeks from when they are a seedling, then after 2 weeks switch to 12 hours on and 12 hours off? I am also growing with CFL lights so.

Should I need More than one CFL to grow? I have one already and if I put it about 2 to 4 inches above the light I think that should work? Im growing Northern Lights. Also any recommendations on what type of bottled water to use? I have some now but the ph is a bit high.

You pretty much want as many CFL's as you can afford. Surround the plants as much as you can, get them in close with a slight breeze to keep them from burning.

I use distilled water right now and I bump the ph up with one drop of PH up. Get the ph up around 6.7. What I am going to do next grow is germinate them then put them in a soil that has no nutes at all! Just a seedling mix. I put them in a little planter that is around 4inx 4in. Once they get their third set of leaves transplant them to a larger pot, and I would remomend using Fox Farms Ocean forest potting soil. I had a ph problem going with cheaper soil and my plants noticed! Check out my little thread and you can see my progress. https://www.rollitup.org/marijuana-plant-problems/348034-first-grow-promlems-plants-please.html I am the first to admit that I am a noob at growing, this is my first grow but read your ass off.

What watt is your light and what kind did you get? Did you get the daylight one that has the blue spectrum of light? I think it is the 6500k spectrum.

I had 5 100 watt daylight CFL's and two soft white 100 watt for the red spectum in my little seedling grow box that I buit myself. But like said before have as many as you can fit in there, and keep the ventalation up on that grow room. Your nothern lights plants will stink! Mine started smelling around 3 weeks into the grow! So you will need to do something about the smell bro!
