I Have these plants under some cfl's for now, i will have my mh tomorrow, they are around there fifth nodes, i have had them on 18/6 for the last few days after havng them on 24 cycle from seed....there a few weeks old and growing just great, how can i tell when there male and female without turning the females into males, ive searched and cant find a straight answer, i know what the males and females look like whne its possible to tel- but ....when is it possible to tell without screwing everything up and shocking the plants....heres a few pics i took last night, since than i trimmed the fan leaves a bit just to let some more light to the stems...i was told that after 18/6 for a while i will be able to tell, than somone else told me that it will not show under 18/6 and i dont want them to grow till there huge and than have to dispose of all the males in my apartement building, if anyone can help i would really appreciate it...thank you so very much!!!

Looking danky dindy!!The only things i could advise is place them in a 12/12 environment or take cuttings and put the cuttings in a 12/12 environment and leave mother's too keep vegging under lamps.

you are in a dilemma. if you let them veg long enough to pre-flower - they are going to be pretty big. and the only way to tell soon - is to switch to 12/12. But if you switch to 12/12 now just until they show sex and then revert back to veg - you may cause them to hermie (and will definitely mean more time to flower).

My advice is to grow them in veg as long as you were planning to and then switch to 12/12. Rather than throwing your males away in your apartment building - put them in a black plastic bag and throw them in a dumpster away from where you live.

will using a metal halide light help in determining the sex sooner....the metal halide works way faster than cfl or t5's right?

plants grow at their own rate - the kind of light can certainly determine how healthy and fast a plant grows but I don't think it will mature any faster.

But MH is a great light to use regardless.

wicked, so will a 400 watt one be good for aorund 50 small plants if i line the walls beside and inbetween with some 3 foot t5 sunblasters and hang a few cfl's too? or is that too much?

they sure can emit an odor when they are little - and i gotta tell ya - if they are stinky now - just imagine when there are big bad ass dripping with gooey resin bud filled plants... with any luck.

a 400w is good for about a 3' x 3' (1m x 1m) space - so if your 50 plants are in that area the answer is yes. supplemental lighting will help greatly however the more lights, the more heat (even CFLs) so you'll need to make sure you can keep things cool enough.

you're welcome - there are lots of helpful (and far more knowledgeable than me) people here - but they are probably like me - if they see someone getting help then they go to the next thread... make sense?

I don't know your grow room situation but i have a relatively small grow box (aprox. 48 cubic feet). I use a 6" centrifugal exhaust fan (440 CFM) and i air-cool my lights with a 4" centrifugal exhaust fans (170 CFM). And two regular oscillating fans (a 6" and a 12"). Now granted i have a 1000w of lights but I had to use an air conditioner in there during the summer to keep the temps below 85 F

my experience has made me more heat sensitive than perhaps i need to be - but i will say - watch your temperatures. Better to run your system a few days without plants so you can take care of any problems before risking seeds/seedlings.
