I need serious career help.

It's simple if you have a home phone. Just call Insurance agents, or Mortgage Bankers, and see if they need someone to call leads for them. But you have to know how to sell on the phone, or you won't get anywhere. I am making a few grand a month doing this. AND so long as I keep the bill per agent @$599/mo or less they don't 1099 me. They just write me off as advertising, and I don't pay taxes!

Yea, I don't get that shit either. But too many people have said it, so therefore I think there's an iota of truth to it. Yes, I would be horrified at the thought, but maybe they're getting paid a lot more than we realize...

I'm not trying to be a downer... but dude starting your own business is not something you casually dive into. You really do need to do your homework and have a sound business plan... even then, nothing is guaranteed. It takes alot of money to open a business. If you fail, then you're in debt. Also, the economy being what it is today... right now is one of the worst possible times to go into business for yourself.

If I were you... I'd research a little more, figure out what you REALLY want to do... and wait for the economy to improve a little bit.

I was a Hippie type in the 70's, but I wanted something out of life I didn't have ..... money!

I knew I wanted to run my own business, but what, and how?

I went to college and got a B.S. in Accounting, cut my hair got a job at a C.P.A. firm. Didn't like it.

Started a Software Company was somewhat successful, went to work for some great big companies, started another business, worked real hard, made a lot of money.

GO TO SCHOOL

to those who said dont try the mmj field in cali its saturated: i dont want to grow and try and supply clubs. it seems like a dead end as there are more and more people flocking to cali for that purpose. i meant something ELSE other than growing for flowers to sell.

whether it be making my own stealth cabs or consulting (ie. helping mmj users design their own grow cabs/rooms or outdoor grows...help with security which im good at and so on) or possibly helping disabled med users who cant afford (or dont want to pay) for high dispensary prices by being hired to do their grows for them at their own home, etc.

or supply the dispensaries with products that aren't easy to obtain (like edibles, clones, thc infused products like eye drops, cream etc)

or something. anything really. if i dont know it already i wouldnt mind learning it.


as far as the difficulty of owning my own business...simply learning a trade and working for yourself doesn't have to be so complicated. its not like i want to have my own storefront, etc.

for example. if i wanted i could start a "moving company" as simple as purchasing a moving truck and running a few ad's online. same goes for an electrician, etc.

jobs like that are self-employment types that don't require too much start-up beyond the investment of education.

idk im at a crossroads and i feel like if i dont find something soon i'll get sucked into activities i shouldn't engage in just to pay the bills.

haha isnt that just the california way? haha. i know so many people who hopped on that bandwagon and hopped right off after 2 grows or so (they couldnt sell it) haha

i remember though being 14...we'd all joke thats what we'd do and be rich, ahhh what its like to be 14.

either did i...guess thats what happens when the legalize it though. or semi-legalize it.

When it was treated as tough as cocaine then growers weren't a dime a dozen. now that the laws become more relaxed the people start growing.

That's the problem though... it's still not as simple as just getting a truck and putting an ad up. For most contracting jobs, you still have to be licensed and insured... even if you find some schmuck who hires you to do an off the grid, unlicensed, uninsured job... you're gonna be in a world of trouble if you fuck something up or if they're unhappy and decide to take legal action. If you're serious about going into business, you gotta cover your bases and protect yourself man.

Step one grow pot
step two get a job in something like retail
step three make friends
step four sell pot.

Depending on your circumstances (past education, current income, age, ect) you may qualify for a Pell Grant. I work in higher education fundraising constulting (a mouthfull I know). You would be suprised to know that a lot of scholarship and grants are unclaimed every year. Some of this has to do with the donors who start the fund, i.e. someone saying "I would like to fund a scholarship for a minority studnet from X county to study invasive plant species and the student must also have a 4.0 and be able to hold thier breath underwater upside down for five minutes".

A pretty extreme example, but I would encourage you to look around. Free money is out there to advance yourself if you look hard enough.

haha. yeah because for some reason all the morons flock to california thinking its the mmj mecca (maybe it is) and blah blah blah but still.

im only here because i was born here (and lived here my whole life).

if i was born in Michigan, Washington, Nevada, or Arizona (ok maybe not arizona but you get the point) you bet your ass id me laughin & flippin off everyone running to cali just to (pretty much) ruin the market.

When i was back in high school the demand was WAY higher than the supply. people were literally flipping oz's a day in 10 sacks at/near my high school and still running out. 8ths were $50 here (now an 8th can be found for 25-30) and zips were 300-350 (now i can find em for 200).

so yeah. a lot has changed & its mostly thanks to the idiots that come here thinking this is where you "get rich" in mmj (which i highly disagree)

Learn to fix cars. Good economy, bad economy you will have customers. Take classes at the local community college, but take the electrical class first, then take automotive air conditioning. With those two classes alone you can start your own side business and work it. Maybe afterward you decide to become a lawyer, you will have skills to pay the bills while you go to school.

College alone does not amount to skill. Hard work, focus and education = a well paid individual.
