If you use the search function at the top of the page you can find several differnet types of growing methods. they range from FiM to super cropping, also you can search for Lst or scrog (kinda the same to me) it really all depends on what your comfortable with. im sure people will argue both sides of the argument with the pro's and con's as they see fit but do a little research and hopefully you can come to some choice yourself on what you think is best.

Ill Probably get flamed but here we go..
Topping produces a split in the branch and does require some healing time.
I personally have great success with LST (super cropping) using a pinch method. (by which you pinch or "squeeze" the stem gently and periodically which makes it bend to expose more nodes to direct light.. thins IMHO produces more "TOPS" faster. and does not slow down growth. personal preference.
heres a pic of my supercropped orange kush. and MY Thread

not here to argue which is the best method, but i tend to do shit the old school way so i top. Here's an example of a plant i topped two weeks ago. If you look in the center of the close up you will see a little purple nub, that's where i topped, and if you look right below it you will see the branch that was forced to grow as a result of the topping.

Beautiful girls!
GREAT TOPPING TUTORIAL!
Some plants dont respond well to topping and could very well kill any chance of top cola formation. believe it or not old school is supercropping like mine. if you were to lay down your plant horizontally all the nodes facing the light would become colas!
Plants tend to produce all "top" colas this way. Im not arguing best method just showing the efficiency of it. Yes you can top a plant but youll never have as many budsites as supercroping. supercropping is also known as LST or Low Stress Training. as the plants wont get stunted because there is no "damage" to the plant. Happy growing and good luck !bongsmilie
