I need some help about electricity...

Call me a noob, but 600's and 1000 watters use different plugs than your standard three-prong, say....television plug in, correct?

I'm going to be getting a HID sometime next fall, and was just wondering if I will need to install some new wall outlets with the big appliance outlets for my lights (240v? 110v?)?

Obviously, I need some schooling on electricity. Feel free to school me.

our 600s don't, they're also digital, but i think most offer standard plugs. if you're running more than about two, put them on different circuit breakers in the building.

Your grow lights will work in regular sockets. Like THCBD said don't run them off the same circuit. I had to run a dedicated breaker for each of my 1000w HPS rooms. I ran it myself and it wasn't that hard at all. An electrician was going to charge me about 400 to do it and I did if for around $150.

I swear I am not folling you THCBD! LOL

Excellent! Just what I was hoping to hear. I've been looking at a couple Lumatek 600's (more than enough light for me) and was hoping to be able to fit all this in one room without too much electrical work:

2 - 600's
Exhaust fan
2 - Oscillating fans
Possibly a CAP or Sentinel Temp/Humidity/CO2 controller

But looking at this now, I would probably have to run an extension cord from a different room into the grow area, or just have an electrician come in.

I've looked into doing it myself, and I possess the knowledge; I am just a bit scared about the life-threatening risk of getting electrocuted. I assume that once you turn the main off at the main breaker box, then you're safe?

i dont know why yall think you cant put load on a circuit..some computers use more watts than your lights..whats the worry lol

Now can someone spill some knowledge on me about amps? i.e. How many amps can I pull on a single 110V circuit? How many on a 220v?

its fine on a 15amp dedicated circuit no problem..

By dedicated circuit, you mean it is strictly for the grow room? And 15amp is a standard circuit amperage? Is a 15amp circuit always 110v? Or 220v? What's the next step up from 15amp? Or is there?

Alright, alright. I'm starting to piece it all together, now. So amperage is more important than wattage as far as breaking circuits? No need to add up wattages in order to circumvent blowing a circuit, but rather, add up amperage, and make sure it's not above the total amount of amperage that that dedicated circuit allows?

yeah i meant just all the things you listed are the only things on that circuit..

i overload circuits on christmas all the time..15amps whats that?? lol thats because they have fuses though..dont go off doing that all the time..it really isnt safe lol

its probably like 1.5amps..you can do what you want..but ive purchased from htg and other online place and ive just not been happy with the "cheaper" products /shrugs

Thanks for the tip. I've bought odds and ends from there before, but haven't made any big purchases from their line.

I was moreso just looking at that inline fan to get an estimate of how many amps they pull.

You have a grow journal I could peep quickee?

no i hardly post pictures ever...i used to with my old account but decided to not with this one...

maybe one day on my next grow break..ill post them all up..i try to keep a collection

not an electrician, but when we have two sixes on a breaker in this house, an additional space heater will flip that shit. i'm sure every set up is different, this is just what we experienced. but like howard said, most of this shit's pretty easy to figure out yourself rather than paying someone. i've heard breakers max out around 2000 watts of light. i use this as a rule of thumb, don't know if it is different with digital (though i would think so) but that would explain why computers can run more efficiently.
