I need some help, COBs vs Boards etc...

I have some panels with 8x 560mm EB series gen1 that run at 1050ma on a 2'x2' square of aluminum flashing....been running for about a year now. They draw 217W.
Cold start voltage is 190, at full operating temp the lowest I've ever seen is 187.
Those EBs really can be run bare naked IMO. Even at 1050....

Honestly running them at 700ma seems cheap as hell compared to running them harder and needing a heat sink or c channel or whatever I’d choose lol, but I could run them a little bit harder and get a square piece of 3/8th” alum 40”x40x and thermal paste and drill them on the board.

I was actually about to ask about that (if bracing was needed with the 40” strips of if they would hold their own weight) some cross braces seem easy enough though
I remember someone here running at 1050ma without heat sinks. I'd use aluminum angle before a heavy and expensive 3/8" plate.
BTW those strips are 1120mm, or 44.1".

Haha I’m so dumb, I was thinking 44” was a foot and I was taking the 4” off... damn I’m not even blonde lol

Also now I’m contemplating 1050 hahaha, I’ll probably go with 700 just for the better efficiency I’ll decide soon though

I really appreciate all of your guys/gals help!

1/8" 40"X40" sheet of aluminum even is like $70. 3/8" would be soon expensive

C channel is a much cheaper option.

Because someone who doesnt know drivers, im assuming isnt going to know about umol/s/m2. It's really not a big difference as long as you're using quality LEDs. They are all around the same anyway.
Samsung Strips and boards are going to give you about the same output at 35wsq/ft. Regardless of what you choose, unless you're using a bunch of underpowered strips/ boards.
I'm not talking about the topicstarter, but about people posting here. You can't explain it to him instead of mumbling something incoherent about W/sqft?

You have the ability to explain it just the same as I do, I was talking about w/sqft because it's something easy for him to understand, since that's what he was asking about.

Sorry but this entire convo could’ve been prevented if you would’ve just done the thing you’re ranting about :)

Lead by example

You'll find 3/4" Architectural Aluminum (1/16" thickness) angle is cheaper and has plenty of support strength. Make a square frame with it, and run another strip of it down the center.
I missed these (I think lol) yeah I know the alum sheet is expensive but I was considering it for also the heat sink benefits, but you’re correct I’d probably be spending about $200 for a frame lol :(
