I need to start flowering!!

So I planted about a month late..... and I'm worried about the fall season coming up before my plants are mature.

3 out of 6 plants have revealed themselves as females but really aren't flowering. I moved them to a place that gets 3 hours less sunlight than before, but no results. They are getting big and I know I will still need 4-6 weeks before harvest.

How can I induce flowering ?? I've heard of black trashbags....

Since these are outdoor plants they never got 18 hours of sunlight, more like 12.
So how many hours should I shave off to start the flowering process?

12/12 will definately throw her in to bloom.anything to get her into dark for 12 hrs will work. we won't see 12 hrs of dark/daylight for another month here.

If they haven't started flowering yet then I'd guess they are some mexican bagseed long ass flowering sativas. Dunno where you got four weeks from, even a fast indica takes 7-8wks from start of flower formations. You're probably looking at 12+wks from when it starts. Just a guess though...are the leaves long and spindly or short wide and fat?


And you're all mixed up about flowering times. They flower based on length of day...not direct sunlight. Ideally you want them in the *direct* sun for 12 hours and in the *dark* for 12 hours since you are trying to induce. If the sun rises at 6 a.m. then at 6 p.m. cover them up with a trashbag or bring them in your dark ass basement put them in a trash can or whatever. Then when it gets dark outside, uncover them.

I agree for the most part, however I have several plots with the same strain and I do notice the ones that get less direct sunlight start forming buds about 1-2 weeks before my plots that get more direct sunlight...

Well I have 6 plants, 3 indica, 3 sativa...

I will try the trashbags, does anyone know the lowest tolerable overnight temp that these plants can handle??? It's gotten down to the lower 50's and they are still doing great.

Why are you so intent on starting them to flower early? They'll flower on their own if you just give them time. Everything started flowering here within the last week or so.

It can get down to 40 in september here, is that still okay??

Are your plants in question from seeds or clones? If your plants are from seed then they could have deferent pheno's

Are you in a place where you could construct a makeshift greenhouse out of some clear plastic? I always forget that not everybody can put their plants in a greenhouse when it gets too cold to grow outside. I flower all the way through the winter in the roof of my greenhouse.

I may be able to construct something, just clear plastic all around?? Do I need to do anything else?

I'd get a roll of plastic and some sturdy sticks to make a frame, then go to town. This should atleast get you through the last couple weeks of the plant's life. If a huge cold front comes in and it's cold for multiple days in a row, I'm not so sure. Being in Florida, we hardly have to deal with temps that low that early in the year.

Sounds good, thanks... What type of plastic do you use exactly??

You can buy rolls of the stuff from stores like Lowes and Home depot, I'm not sure what it's normally used for but just ask one of the people there and they should be able to find it for you.

Edit: the stuff I'm talking about will look like a roll of clear wrapping paper.

thats way to cold they might not make it.. thats almost freezing point

Yeah that's what I'm afraid of.... It won't actually freeze (32f) here til Oct. Think I may just start moving them into the garage at night when the temps start to dip below 45-50 degrees.

just waite another week and they might start flowering

Well could you possibly create some sort of spot to hide them in your garage with a few cfl's? If it's that cold, nobody is gonna be poking around your garage.

They all are really close, they have small pre-flowers, like 1-2mm. I can't quite tell the sex yet. Only 1 is showing pistils.

I figure with the average overnight temps I have a good 6-8 weeks of decent overnight temps - is that gonna be long enough??

Depends which end of that estimate you actually end up getting. The last two weeks of flower are usually the most productive time for flowering by my experience.
