I quit a couple years ago. cold turkey. weed helped. and I also used these crazy ass toothpicks.
http://www.thursdayplantation.com/cmsv1/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=115&Itemid=101 they have tea tree oil and peppermint and they burn like hell at first but in a nice way. the intensity is soothing. they usually have them at earthy crunchy stores but my local store switched to some other brand that i just don't like so i get them online...the key to quitting smoking for me was breaking the actual habit of celebrating every event in life with a cigarette. butt after meal, butt on break at work, butt with coffee, butt with beer. having something else to fill the habit void that doesn't have all that nicotene is helpful. some people use candy or whatever, i used the picks. anyone who commits to the hell can do it. quit trying to avoid the hell. don't avoid smoky places if you wouldn't otherwise. I did it right in the midst of a smoky household with a bunch of smoking friends and i really think that was key. It really rammed home the mindset that i am not a smoker (maybe it helped me wean but the point is i no longer smoke). you need to relearn every aspect of life minus ciggs. suffer and you will win.
