Im currently using fox farm ocean forest soil. I have a few seedlings in a few cups (got planted feb 9th).

I also have a few cups w/ ocean forest and nothing else (but those cups of dirt were watered just as much as the ones w/ seeds...long story dont ask lol)

I noticed the white rock like material in the soil (i forget what its called) is turning a slight shade of green. Even the soil that doesnt have a seedling in it.

The water i use to water the plants is set out at room temperature for 24hrs before use. (i have no meters to check levels)

What could this problem be? if its a problem at all considering the plant isnt showing signs of damage.

i believe the white rocks your speaking about are perlite,i nevr seen them turn green but im sure its nothing cause i think they take the tint of something fairly easily..if your not seeing any signs of any kind of deficiencys you should be ok,goodluck

Don't worry about it....

It is from watering.

Be more concerned that you are not over watering.

Too much water and incorrect ph are the biggest problems.

Good luck

I have this same problem, im not sure what it is , all of the perlite's are green but my plants are growing fine so im not worried right now, we'll see what happens i guess. i thought maybe it was the nutrients im using.

Rock + Light + Water = Algae. Cover the top of your containers soil with a couple handfuls of soilless coco fiber. Problem solved. Holds in moisture from evaporation and prevents algae, gnats and other soil surface problems too.
