I thought femininzed seeds weren't good.

Hello, this post is to clear up some issues in my mind with the RIU experts before I place an order.

A while back ago I read in a cannabis growing book (don't remember which one) that feminized seeds have higher risk of being Hermies and they also don't yield as much.

I am on the marker for some beans for the first time and I noticed that there is an insane variety of fem. seeds.

Was it untrue that what I read about fem. seeds?

Did the technology improve on making better fem seeds?

Last but not least should I consider feminized seeds?

No, it is very true. Its a risk you have to take. I had feminized white widow and it yielded well but the turned hermie so yes its possible

i would consider fem seeds so u dont waste the time and money growing males....
yeah i think fem seeds have a higher chance of being hermie

fuck that its better to get reg seeds cuz u can prolly get ten females and with fem u can get five for sure but then if u fuck up it goes hermi

Since I am looking for a great mother that will last me a good amount of grows. Perhaps it would be better to get regular seeds. Lets say I get 3 females out of ten. I will pick the best one as the mother and screen the green out of the other two. Is my thinking on the right track?

I have grown 5 different strains using fems and have not had any problems yet.

I grew 3 strains of regular from Sensi and 2 of the strains hermied. So go figure.

Some breeders make better fem seeds than others.

I don't think I have ever heard of anyone that was happy with dutch passion fems for example. Hermie monsters.

Unless I was ordering a single seed, I would get regular. Mainly because I like to make my own crosses.

I did two chocolopes from DNA and two Ice Creams from Paradise and no herms and both are good producers. I have probably done 4 rounds with clones since i started and they have been very stable. That said none of my chocolopes had the chocolate pheno so next time I will probably get the non femmed to search for the chocolate pheno.

I ordered the 6 regular chocolope seeds. I am crossing my fingers to make sure I get the chocolate pheno.

I never bothered with fem seeds until this last grow. Out of 6 seeds (4 WW, 2 Cal Hash), I had 6 female plants. Only one WW showed any signs of hermism after 4 weeks and even then it was very slight (cut it down anyway).

I used to believe all the horror stories I read about fem seeds, but not so much anymore.

That all said, if I was going to settle on a single (or maybe two) strains to be perpetuated through cloning...well I would take the route of standard seeds. They are a lot cheaper and out of 10 you are bound to get at least two or three VERY worthy mothers.

Where did you read this BS?

I grow Fems with no hermies, and no chance of males, that's the whole point.

Most hermies - from feminized seed - are caused by stress.

really the chances of getting a hermie are very very slim if you are not stressing your plants out. yes it is there but i believe it is more due to environmental stress than it is the seeds themselves. if you look at it this way: lets say you ahve a 1 out of 100 chance of getting a hermie from fem seeds.... this is just hypothetical these are not accurate stats. so you have 1/100 hermie off fem and you dont buy fem you get a 50/50 chance of male to fem from non fem seeds. your chances of getting a fem that will not switch to hermie with proper growing conditions is much better out of 100 than your chances of getting females if you were to buy regular seeds. in the long run you would be up 49 successful female seeds with fems over the regular seeds. like i said my stats are not accurate but i do believe they represent what i am trying to say here. THE CHANCES OF HERMIE WITH PROPER ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITONS WITH FEMINISED SEEDS SHOULD BE LESS THAN THE CHANCES OF GETTING A MALE WITHOUT FEM SEEDS, THEREFORE YOU ARE GETTING MORE BANG FOR YOUR BUCK WITH FEM SEEDS. unless of course you are making your own crosses. then you need to have some males and this question is rendered senseless. sorry if i rambled

For years there was nothing but regular beans so I of course purchased them and then for a while after feminized beans I still only purchased regular beans. I could not begin to guess how many 10-packs of regular beans I have bought over the years and I never got more than 8 females out of 10 beans so saying; ‘get reg seeds cuz u can prolly get ten females" is "prolly" wrong.

I will admit that when it comes to getting hermies I have always been very lucky but the last hermi I had was a female from a regular bean so while they may be more prone to hermi, at least some strains anyway, I do not concern myself much with it.

plants from normal seeds will hermi from stress(fucking it up) too........i think you have a typo. 10 normal seed will give you 10/10 females but fem gives only 5/10 females? you got em switched around my friend

I had a NL regular seed go hermi on me in my last grow probably due to some sort of stress but the other two plants that were in the same tank did not herm and one of them was a pure fold fem and the other was a regular nirvana snow white.

it was about 5 or 6 weeks in. Im not exactly sure though. it was a plant that I really couldnt get to to inspect. the only way I found it was I did some tying and bending and accidentally broke a little top in the process and when I went to try it I found a couple of beans in it. so I decided to investigate and after I moved a bunch of stuff around and got in there it had balls all over the place and there was quite a few that were already broke and dried up so it is very possible that it happened earlier than I thought. as far as when are you safe Im pretty new to indoor but I have seen outdoors turn at all stages even in the last week of ripening. let me tell ya that really sux going and checking to find a nice plant that is almost ready and looking perfect to only return a week later to find balls growing or sometimes they get those little nanners growing out of the bud. usually when it happens that late it dont seem to be that big of deal though as not much gets affected or has a chance to make any beans before whack whack. this is just my experience and I am by no means an expert.
