I got a few cock threads. Lol.I'm so glad to see feathers....from the Head line I was afraid to read this thread.
Cool.I'll give you some fun stuff to doFor the best fluffy omelet separate the egg whites and mix them to soft peaks then gently fold the yolks in and add the ingredients.
I almost made the title sound worse. So who came first, the cock or the chick?
Have you experienced a drop in egg production with the shorter days? I have. Slowly dropped from 7 eggs a day (I have 7 hens) to about 3 when the days started getting shorter. Ran a brooder light out to the coop and extended 'daylight' back to about 14 hours a day. Within a week, we were back to getting 6-7 a day.Yep. That is why we raise them.
Yes. All you got to do is put a single cfl in the coop for a few extra hours of light.Have you experienced a drop in egg production with the shorter days? I have. Nice. This is my first year raising chickens since I was a wee lad. Probably went overkill with the flood light that I put in but was hoping to use it for a little warmth in early morning.Yes. All you got to do is put a single cfl in the coop for a few extra hours of light.
I'm a member of the Backyard Chickens forum and there are people who incubate Trader Joe eggs and actually get chicks lol.
Uhhhh, is this a good idea?I'm a member of the Backyard Chickens forum and there are people who incubate Trader Joe eggs and actually get chicks lol.
I was only about 50% with my incubator. I separated my sitters and let them sit on them. When I heard peeping I would get in there with a small butterfly net, scoop out the babies and put them in the brooder. Otherwise they would trample some and not let them eat.I'm a member of the Backyard Chickens forum and there are people who incubate Trader Joe eggs and actually get chicks lol.
I don't see why not. It just shows that the eggs are fertile. MOST people just order their eggs or let their chickens do the work. I kinda view it like our "SOLO CUP GROW CONTEST".Uhhhh, is this a good idea?
I haven't tried incubation yet but I believe what you're saying. Chickens are actually pretty brutal creatures when you just sit and observe them.I was only about 50% with my incubator. A Polish Crested? We had lots of those. The other hens pecked a good number of them to death!
Lovely flock I miss having chickens.
I have 7 Rhode Island Reds. All the same age. And I STILL have two that get pecked on. Waddles, combs, backs. One dominant hen about became soup because of this but I spent time with my chickens in their run and smacked the shit out of the two dominant ones when they were pecking on the weaklings. It hasn't stopped but it has slowed down some.A Polish Crested? We had lots of those. The other hens pecked a good number of them to death!
