I asked a security guard the other day my local hoodmart if they have a lot of problems with theft and he said the most them when caught have cash on them..

Sure, look at Robert Durst. Poor innocent guy just stealing a sandwich and now he might be in jail for life. Thanks Duane Reade.

Nobody in this country should starve, period

If I owned a grocery store and I caught somebody stealing food, I'd get my private security to detain them, take them into my office and I'd interview them and judging by that interview I'd decide what to do. If it's somebody with no money who essentially had to do it to survive, I'd let them go and give them information on how to apply for SNAP, take their picture and tell them if I catch them again I'd have to call the police and if they can't get help and/or are desperate to come talk to me first and arrange something

I think our food programs should be increased to provide for all homeless and hungry, without exception. One single person dying of something that takes weeks to kill you, months in some cases, is unacceptable and shouldn't be tolerated in any civil society
