If GMO were used to rapidy develop strains, could it become safer?

GMO is used to protect profits. The DNA is patented and those changes can be tested against unauthorized use. Do these markers which are designed to withstand mutation cause the problems? Would allowing mutation and other protections make them safe?

while [ 1 ]; do cp -arv kush kush.`date|md5sum`;done

The above is an endless loop that will copy kush as kush. followed by a random string as fast as the computer can do it.

I would be all for it if it wouldn't be corrupted by a greedy monopoly but with crony capitalism we know that it is inevitable monsanto would patent it and start prosecuting citizens who grew weed.

The perception that DNA operates on an algebra like that of digital computers is somewhere between incomplete and wrong. cn

Bear,
Companies like Monsanto engineer their patented gene sections to be antibiotic resistant so those sections won't mutate. That goes against why sexual reproduction happens, diversity.

Deprave, did I say that?Asexual reproduction happened first. As an organism became more complex, more chances for mistakes occured. The complex organisms developed sexual reproduction to combat deliterious mutations affecting a whole population from extinction

What problems?

What makes you think GMO foods are not safe?

DD,
What happens if a peanut gene is inserted into a grape and you're alergic to peanut? Pig farmers feeding GMO based feed have had all their animals die of unknown causes with the only common factor was the gmo feed.Terminator crops get into the wild.

There has never been a case of anybody harmed by GMO foods.

Your peanut question: Those people who are allergic to peanuts, or shell fish, or whatever are not allergic to specific genes (nucleotide base pairs), they are allergic to large scale structures that result from many genes. I suppose it is possible for the expression of a single gene to cause an allergic reaction but the possibility seems very remote, and it has never happened yet. A gene is a gene is a gene, mammals currently share a large percentage of the same genes.

More to the point, should society starve a million people to keep one person from getting a case of hives? I see genetically modification of food crops, animals, even humans as a very good thing.

it would have to be a whole sequence of genes that causes grapes to develop the mechanisms to synthesize peanut proteins.

genetic code bits dont cause allergies, the same 4 bits arraigned in nearly infinite combinations is all genetic material is, and peanuts and grapes already share the same four genetic marker bits.

adding fish genes to tomatoes didnt make tomatoes with gills or scales, it made tomatoes with resistance to frost.

adding luminous bacteria genes to fishies didnt make fish that reproduce by mitosis, it made fish that glow in the dark.

peanut/grape transgenic crops would not make berries that are lethal to people with peanut allergies, any more than it would create legumes that can be made into wine.

The main reason I buy organic isn't because I think it's that much healthy'er. It's because they can't use GMO products. It's a political statement to Monsanto & BIG AG, every time I open my wallet. Your supporting small farmers when you by organic, cause there aren't any large scale organic farms.
Support small farmers..........buy organic!.........Yes I know it costs more. Consider it a political contrabution..........that you can eat!

Peoples Republic Of China. you number one source for "Organic" foods.

HA HA HA HA HA HA!!

the health benefits of lead, cadmium, and spray dried blood meal.

man, you crack me up!

doc,
I already know organic is bullshit. Organic is about as natural as natural flavors. The nutrient used to feed plants needs organic approval to use, but the producer doesn't have to follow any guidelines.

""Probably the vast majority of Chinese stuff that meets the organic label does so legitimately," Busch said. "...........
Do you read your own stories?...........I know there's fraud everywhere, I just don't throw the baby out with the bath water!

It still beats the GMO factory farmed practices, of big ag.
If you buy organic your telling Monsanto "FU"!
