Does that mean the Fed can pull RIU.org users information (Such as IP addy) with very little hassle?

I know these questions are asked frequently, but i was fuckin' around whatsmyipaddress.com and entered RIU's IP into the IP Locator and sure enough, it originates in Cali. Any educated guesses?

Of course they could. Its not hard, don't need to be the DEA to pull that kind of info.

If you're worried about that sort of thing don't post here. I have my doubts they would do it however because they seriously lack the resources to go after the thousands of users on here and many similar sites, who have just a couple plants, and have no intention of distributing the product.

Well i mean my post count is around 300, so i'm not really paranoid. i'm doing something i believe in and i'm growing for personal use only. i'm more or less looking for a definite answer as to what's stopping Uncle Sam from using RIU as an easy way to turn me into a criminal.

There was a guy here screwing around who put my ip..comp. operating system..company that supplies my phone and net..on my screen... not in public.. I wasn't impressed... I don't give a shit about cops living where I am..it was the invasion that toasted my muffins.....

If you're worried about it then just post through a proxy server or TOR. A script kiddie can pull all the IPs he wants but that IP will originate from Poland and chain through a dozen intermediaries.

but even with a proxy server your shit's still not 100% safe. Your data is sent out before it is encrypted on a proxy. And the standalone proxys a really intrusive and use up too much memory. atleast on my pc.

Thats only true for standard proxies not anon proxies. Anon proxies strip all the in and out headers. And as I mentioned above, if you use TOR then there's zero chance of every being tracked but TOR can slow you down if there aren't any peers near you geographically.

uh guys no matter what u do, u can be tracked via IP. proxies etc just bounce u around making it harder/longer to find the originating IP, with ur IP they find the ISP, the ISP then can link the IP to a payment address. proxies and tor just prolong the inevitable, if they want to catch you they will.

the only way to be truely stealth is to steal a neighbors internet, and if they already went far enough to track the IP knocking on a few doors its going to deter them.

read through the posts, all the ones starting "i got busted" are by kids and morons. dont waste ur time worrying about if the DEA, etc can catch you, they can, but will they? no. unless u post ur 25k $ setup and mention how u illegally grow and sell in [state].

moral of the story, dont be stupid.

Yep thats what I figured. Why is the DEA going to go through all that trouble to hunt down a guy growing 2 plants in his closet lol.

Unless you talk about selling it and post pictures of professional 50+ plant setups I think you're safe...

Not tryin to be a dick or anything but you clearly don't understand the Tor network. It is being used in China and other places by humanitarian workers who are doing work that would result in grave danger if discovered. If you're using Tor, you aren't getting caught, period. I attended several talks at last year's DEFCON being presented by the developers and they discussed the vulnerabilities found that year and how they have been fixed.

In any event, you're also right that there's really little worry about getting caught by using the site. If you get caught and a forensics analysis is performed by investigators (and it will be) then your use of the site could become evidence against you, especially if it incriminates you in other crimes but it's not likely to get busted by the use of RIU directly.

For me the curiosity is OK.... the posting of locations and shit like that pisses me off as it instigates others to pry... and as we know many on here have gotten popped for being stupid in "off site" matters.. why open gates for potential popping of site people... let them (LEO) look for themselves instead of supplying them with the info on your seized comp....
if it was my site and I saw my area, whatever info on site I'd take YOUR email addy and post it in a site offering $1.00 blowjobs... it(spying & posting) doesn't prove ones comp. savvyness.. just the fact they aren't trustworthy...

Tor cannot (and doesn't try to) protect against an attacker who can monitor both traffic going into the Tor network and also traffic coming out of the Tor network, such as the United States government which has the capability to monitor any broadband internet traffic under the Communications Assistance For Law Enforcement Act and can therefore see both ends of the Tor connection. Tor tries to protect against traffic analysis, but Tor does not have the ability to prevent traffic confirmation (also called "end-to-end correlation").

Dude, this was an old vulnerability and it has been fixed for over a year. The patch announced last July prevents any single node from knowing anything other than its last connection so unless the FEDS stand up an entire Tor network and you happen to enter and exit and only take hops through their nodes, they cannot ascertain the "end-to-end" correlation. No single node has any idea where the traffic originated or where its final destination is.

Don't get me wrong, there are some very intelligent people getting paid big money by governments to try to break the Tor system but each time they find a weakness its quickly patched. I recommend speaking to the developers if you have questions about Tor's security because they take great pride in its security and work tirelessly to validate its integrity.

it took about 10 years to fix that secruty issue.
and if tor is so great why do security specialist and black and white hats alike recommend using vadalia (tor + privoxy).

you can argue all you want, im done here in, but you are not anonymous, and as long as u pay for internet with a registered address and payment methods you can be caught.
the information has to come from somewhere. read up on OSI and TOR, if you are that interested. knowledge is the best protection not one sided opinions. (note i said tor does provide the most anonyominity, yes it does, but are you truely anonymous, no)

the federal government (if they wanted to) could get all our IP addresses and find where all of us live and bust us all, cmon havent any of you seen the movie traitor? that shits real. but the thing is the federal government has got to have busting people like us who come on here and talk about our grows as one of their lowest priorities or not a priority at all. for them to even consider spending the time and resources to bust us would first require the government eradicating child prostitution onn the internet, the sale of stolen goods, piracy, and identity theft and lets face it people it will be a cold day in hell when any of that shit isnt going on anymore. i think alot of people need to realize that what we are doing here isnt "that illegal"
