Ok. Cops are assholes. We all know this. Just because a cop could potentially abuse a law is not a good reason to vote against having that law all together. It's a big first step towards ending all that.

i would say thats about right..thats how much high grade pot sells for in Columbia and that is headies stuff...dutch passion, white window..good genitics..if you make a product thats now was once only grown by a few selected people and now make it that everyone can grow it..common sence will tell you that price will drop..supply and demand...if you have a huge farm that is all mecancized and is capible of growing 1000s of lbs of weed..400 to 800 $ a lb is what they will be selling it for b/s the market will be soo flooded theres no one else to buy it..unless its going overseas..

haha where are you from? out here its flooded people are sitting on pounds they can't move and the price is still the same
 
so lets just say that legalizing marijuana drives the prices down. THis is s fair argument. More growers more product supply in demand. Just one thing, the purpose of legalizing marijuana is so that California can gain additional tax revenue, so if lbs are only $800 when they were $4000 before whats the tax on that? keep in mind that gas is only $1 a gallon PLUS TAX. Cigarettes are only $2.00 a pack PLUS TAX. I wonder at what rate they'll tax cannabis. so if its only $50 an oz you don't think the state will make up the difference by adding the appropriate tax. WE NEED MONEY is the only reason a bill like this would even be considered.

The whole tax thing has been debated before (of course).

The state must be very careful on its taxation procedures. I believe no tax should be had on cannabis as it has no detriment to society like alcohol and cigarettes (drunk driving and lung cancer to name a few). However, if the state doubles the price of cannabis so it's say $200 weed $200 tax for $400 total, you'll see a HUGE black market for cannabis. Just like we have now. The tax is considered too high. However, if they tax it at say 10% of the selling price, and that ends up being $20-$50 in total, then most will likely pay it as the tax is 'acceptable'.

There's black markets for cigarettes and alcohol already for those not wanting to pay the 'tax', but the cannabis black market is much larger already because its already illegal to sell it to begin with in most places, so we have the "head start" approach where we already can buy it tax free so no real reason to bother paying it if it does come up.

It could not be based on the selling price or anyone could cheat the system and say they charged less than they did. I am going to guess the only way to tax it is on weight, not amount paid. Dont they charge tax on cigarettes by pack or carton and not by price?
 
The carton of camels I have here now have tax stamps on each pack, not on the carton, so at least here it's by the pack. I'd gander it to be the same everywhere in the USA for the most part though.

So likely what you will end up with is a flat tax on the weight of the cannabis (essentially the carton) and then you will likely pay a sales tax on top of that just like cigarettes.
 
I'd consider an ounce of cannabis the same as a carton of cigarettes. I know they weigh different, but I dont mean that. I mean that when you buy a carton or an ounce, its usually not for just a few days. It lasts a little while. If a carton is $20 in taxes, that isnt so terrible if an ounce of cannabis is also $20. I bet we'll see it by the ounce and in $50-$100/oz range.

You do have a good concept and it could very well be reality... but even though many growers would pop up. it doesnt necessarily mean the quality will go down. Hey maybe since new growers will pop up they can come up with some crazy strains?!?!?! I'd think so just because moms and pops want to create something out of the extraordinary.... but ya price can and maybe will go down, who knows just wait and see.
 
prices will go down peeps becuase if its legal companies like phillip morris, marborlo (cant spell i wonder why) will start growing and packaging high quality pre rolled joints in 20 packs and cartons at a fraction of the cost it is now

im free of being legal every time im somewhere smokin. dont be a custy and legalize so you cant buy it at the store with gov. chems. if weed is decriminalized people will grow more and hook you up cause it will be no trouble trust me on that, you will be able to find weed. DECRIM MEANS NO TROUBLE legalization is just giving this goldmine to the government instead of the potheads. hook up the community with decrim not uncle sam with legalization. thats the way pot is dont screw yourself because you think it would be nifty to buy weed at the store. I WILL MEET YOU AT THE STORE WITH NUGGETS IF THATS WHERE YOU WANT TO GO SO BAD!!!
 
What's the deal with commercial permits, anyway? I cant see them saying "Sure, here's a permit for 5000 sqft of grow space". If they do, let me know, so I can move. :-)
 
Again. Where do you people keep coming up with the idea this will be commercialized? As of 2009 the tobacco industry is regulated by the FDA. Marijuana is still outlawed by the FDA. Do you honestly think these companies are going to move in here and roll joints? They have enough problems with the feds already without compounding their problem. California will pick up some sales tax money but how much? The black market can and will still exist, and most people will just grow their own for personal consumption.
