Maybe, there a 300 watt (diode not draw) comparison grow ATM, between a brand new Platinum P300 and a Mars 300 that's so old it has been discontinued. They can last. If I can survive the Xbox 360 I can survive anything. :)

The trouble is what I can afford isn't want I'd buy. Someone has just donated me a Mars P300, I won't get much from it I know but

After much more reading I hope to cover my area 30"x18"x36 with 3 LEDs.
Which LED would be a great choice of trying to cover this area? I've narrowed it down to either cree cxa3070 or the vero 29, all with 3000K. I'm flipping a coin on using either a meanwell LPC-35-700 or the PLM-40-1050. All three will have their own drivers.
I do plan to run them on individual heatsinks. I've read that the Artic 11 would be overkill since i'm not powering the LEDs on full power. Which active cooling would suffice? Any possibility to have a passive heat sink if I have a 6inch clip on fan doubling as a circulation fan?
If anyone has other ideas, suggestions, food for though, or anything else please let me know.

Enclosed spaces in tropical areas its best to stay near ambient I think.

This is a 5.8" heatsink usa 18" long in a 24" x 12" x 36" area using 3 3590s Give you an idea of what it looks like..

At 1a it heats up quite a bit passive but a little airflow through the fins cools it right down to cool to the touch.

So you could do 6" per 5.8" profile or maybe a little more to get a little cooler..

Low voltage isn't a bad idea if your new to it, or even old to it. You'll get lots of ideas for improvements after you've done one or two.

Check supras heatsink thread and maybe he can recommend a 100% passive sink. In my experience though fan power is gonna come from somewhere, otherwise the heat will build on itself in a enclosed space.

Edit... Highly recommend whatever driver you decide on have a dimming function. Easy to set up and makes it much more enjoyable to use. Germination through flower.... Heat control...etc

I would prefer PLM over LPC. PLM is slightly more expensive but has better efficiency, Power factor correction and it is just easy to connect wire to it. See here to see how wire connects in PLM
Both PLM -40-1050 and lpc-35-700 can power single vero or 36V cxb 3590 /3070
PLM does have a dimmable feature but only way to dim is to turn off and turn on again.
3 x PLM-40-1050 will cost about the same as HLG-120H
HLG-120H-C1050 can power 3 vero 29's
HLG-120H-C1400 can power 3 cxb 3590/3070
Like Pos said, For passive design good to go with dimmable driver like HLG-120H. You can increase power if needed and decrease if your heatsink runs hotter than you expected.

Artic 11 is not an overkill. You can runs those Artic cooler fans at 5v instead of 12v if your cobs are not running hard. A long 6" or 5.8" might also be a good design for passive or semi passive.

Any 12v driver will do fine as long as it rated 3 watts or more

Its a bit of a decision...

high voltage driver...one long heatsink and be done with it.

"safer" low voltage driver but more ac connections to deal with....safer?

I'd say do just like my picture and use the dimmable hlg 120. Since the area is larger and for flower use the 1.4a current. Size the heatsink to the length of the area minus a few inches.

If it runs too hot a wall wart and a fan placed on top is a simple fix.....or even a clip on like mentioned aimed right at the fins.

that will be the easiest and most satisfying build for that area I think.

or just go modular like originally planned. Lots of options..

AHHHHHH so many damn options. been wanting to take the led plunge for some time now, and have been checking out quite a bit of grows for weeks. wanting around a 200 watt unit that I can veg and flower with. 3500k sound about right? want to mess around to see what they can do. would like something better suited in the flowering, but does just fine for veg. so it seems its between the cxb3070's and vero 29's.

really liking gogreen's - are they a member here on riu? can i apply the discount code to amazon, or just on their site. seeing 2-3 weeks shipping, can that be expedited for extra $, or are they made to order?

would 2 area 51 single cob units be comparable in intensity and footprint? seems they are driven a little higher in power, that compromise the life of the unit?

Alright, So ive been following this Post For a while now, trying to gather as much information on what led to buy,
I took my time to hear everyone out as i didn't need the lights right away,
Now im gearing up to make a purchase and im still pretty stuck on what lights to buy..:wall:

I was going to go with 4 of Area 51's 5000K Fixtures,
But when i went to make the purchase it told me it didn't ship to Canada.
And the guy i messaged on the website just told me i have to pay with an
invoice because shipping is always different,
I dont make many online purchases so i am not exactly sure what he meant by this,
emailed back and haven't got a message back in over 2 weeks... Not very helpful.:|

So Anyway anyone else help me out with what Lights i should go for?
looking for a light Equivalent to a 1000w hps to replace my current
light.

4 A51 W90's weren't going to replace a 1000W hps so consider it a blessing if that's what you were expecting :wink:
