To an extent their size will be determined by pot size, i also see no need for training beyond LST (bending and tieing down stems) with most indica dom style plants. you could in theory train in whatever way you want - weed is pretty tough - you can bend and force it to grow in pretty much any space and any way. :p

Obviously once you are starting to think about limiting the size of plants you should consider why in favour of just doing less plants.

By the way, I emailed Hans to ask him about the upgraded panel PSU mentioned and got a response that more or less boils down to that he will be making changes for the "veg panel" in a couple of weeks and that the next "panel upgrade" will be 4 months or so from now. I'm not sure exactly what is different between those two changes, but there you go.

For what it is worth, I bought a Pro Grow 180 and it looks like a good quality unit. I am three weeks into my first grow and I have no complaints so far.

I'm doing 4x8x7 with just at 1600 gross LED watts.
All ebay queens from mix or the china guys direct.

It may be over kill a little but the 270 and 300 watt units are my favorite.
can be had for 160 to 200 and its still a good deal IMO.2013-03-20 17.16.18.jpg

So I have another request. Does anyone have any good resources to study the interactions of light and plants? Preferably not just limited to photosynthesis. I found the kanna threads which has been an interesting read so far. Just curious as to what resources other people are using when they design their lamps.

I guess another question. Would the heliospectra be a good choice to use for prototyping to develop panels for different types of plants, growing methods, and lighting conditions? Are there better choices?

Google scholar. Be sure to look in the reference section of any relevant articles you find, as you're more than likely to find additional useful information there.

Anybody have any experience with the new Lumigrows? Specifically the 325's. Thinking of replacing my trusty 600 (in a 4x4) with 2 of these, each in its own 3x3 space. Wondering if the spread would be sufficient for that area? Also, anyone with any info on the new Illumitex light would be great, can't find much on those anywhere (although the spectrum control on the Lumigrows is really why I like them) New to LED, but have been doing this a couple years now, and I think I'm ready to take the plunge...

Hi wanting to try an led grow, was wondering if two/three 270w blackstar chromes could grow 8 plants in a 2metre tent. if not how many would you advise or which other light for that matter.

Each lamp will cover a 2' x 3' area, so if you have 2m x 2m, that's around 6.5'x6.5', so you'd need 6 lamps to cover everything. So you'd cover a little more than half the tent with 3 lamps.

8 plants is probably doable if they're small (2gal pots?) though.

Thanks for the input mate. the tents 2m long by 1m wide if that makes any difference and I will be using nft trays instead of pots with a jack/blues cross. would going with a smaller watt led but more of them be a wiser idea? as funds hold me back a little for now.

also should I use blackstar or are there better options for me I've read as much as I can but info's scattered all ova ha.

I'm replacing my 135s with 270 to 300s
It's what Ive figured out to be the correct footprint.

i have just started to see these integrated led style lights pop up in different forums. i'm not sure yet what to think, anyone else have more experience with this style light. would seem great to grow one big dense girl but you'd really need some height above plant to hang such a powerful light... i guess we'll see how they do soon enough

Ah yeah, with 2m x 1m, 3 lamps will cover nicely.

Blackstar have a decent rep for output, but the quality can be a little China, and they have a reputation for breaking eventually. That said, many people have had their units for 5+ years without trouble. So, with the reduced price comes a bit more risk.
