That's a good question.

I personally have not experienced any benefit to 660-680 (a red nm), with either leds or hot5 tubes, but my plants are sat dom

It won't hurt, but having them IMHO, means giving up x% of much more beneficial 630--650

Thank you very much for the info! Should I get 2 of the white light ones or one of each? This is just for my 3x3 flower room...

I read that before I just figured you folks had some insight as to the actual ability of those to grow buds. Thank everyone again for all the information and advice!

Well the proof is in the pudding. Thank you very much. How "rigorous" is this fellas requirements for giving a discount based on a grow journal? so in a 36X36 one should do the trick and maintain good dense nugs with little heat?

So I'm a giant worry wort. If I put rollitup.org in my email to the A51 folks would that force it to go to the spam folder. I was hoping to actually get ahold of the individuals selling these.

Jeff is very responsive if you send an email to Area 51. I usually get a reply either later at night or the next day. He's a member of rollitup.org himself. And when I asked about that discount, I put links to 4-5 of my previous grow journals from here in the email. I don't know you, but his web site says that he just doesn't want people who are "troublesome" on this site representing his products. Otherwise, you can get a substantial discount! (This info is on his FAQ page.)

Edit: I see you asked about heat. LOL! I had to ADD heat to my grow cabinet because it was too COLD. It generates a lot less heat than fluorescent lights and the built-in fans and heat sink disperse it nicely and very quietly! It's so nice to not have to worry about getting rid of excessive heat. I even turned my exhaust fan down to its lowest setting.

Awesome. So it is as simple as it seemed. I have another issue. I was trying to register for his forums and for the security question they as what LED abb. means... The answer is Light Emitting Diode It doesn't accept that as an answer. No matter if I put a dash in between light and emitting or if I remove all the spaces... Nothing seems to work. Thanks for all of the info and I hope to hear from you all soon.

Edit: wtf is µmole/s and what range is good? Barney terms please.

Umole/s is an abbreviation for micromoles. Unit of meausure of photons / par. 700 -1200 umole/s is good. For larger plants more works good too.. The higher cri (color rendering index ) the more even the spectrum. The more even the spectral output the better results and not as high par numbers are needed.

You read my mind, Hyroot.
I was just busting those lines out on a friend of mine the other day.

"When are you gonna stop calling me a haole?"
"When you stop being a haole, haole."

I'm about to buy one of these... Joyhydrogrow Apollo 180W 10BANDS Full Spectrum LED Grow Light Flower Plants | eBay ...and do a side by side, controlled comparison between this one and two others. I can't really say I have loads of faith in a Chinese LED, hence the side by side comparison. This LED is from the same company as the one you posted, but newer. They give you a 90 day, no questions asked, money back guarantee, which is just enough time for me to decide if I'll want to keep it or not.

Here are the other two that I will be using in my comparison. All three lights come with a 90 day, no questions asked, money back guarantee.

NEW - Diamond Series LEDs - Extreme 3w LED Technology - Advanced LED Grow Lights

Any comments?

I would look into what everyone in this thread is recommending. Area 51 has some nice clearance items to get you started @ low cost from what I saw.

Just to clarify, those clearance items are Chinese LED panels, not Area 51's panels. But they should work ok, with their REAL specs posted here:

http://area51lighting.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&p=30#p30

Area 51 bought them to find out their true specs, which don't live up the their advertised claims. That being said, they should work ok and are a lot cheaper than Area 51's retail prices.

Hey guys, I am in the process of setting up a 3x3 room. I am currently looking at these units as they seem to be the only ones (with a good reputation) recommended for this size room:

The Area 51 XGS-190
http://a51led.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=65&products_id=181

The Blackdog BD micro-U
http://www.blackdogled.com/bdmicro-u.html

The Vipar B3x3

California Lightworks Solarflare 200W
http://www.californialightworks.com/Buy.htm

My #1 priority is top quality flowers. Can anyone help me decide which would be best for me?

Apache Tech/Area 51, the SS400 from CLW, the 3x3 by Vipar, the blackdog. in that order.

The ss200 wont cover a 3x3 as well as you want... if you want top notch go AT, Area 51 is your best balance, The CLW is more of a gamble.. don't see many of those thrown up in these parts, but go over to their forum and look at what is goin down.

I dont know what they have goin on right now, but CLW has that incentive program and they rotate the SF's and SS'

The Area 51 XGS-190 would be my top pick, in fact, I just purchased one yesterday.
I would at least get the 240W model if you go the Black Dog route.
I agree with Scotch above, if you go the California Lightworks route, you'd need their 400W light.
The Vipar's are rebranded Chinese panels, therefore are not recommended at all.
Good luck.

I did not list an Apache tech. Everything I see on their website is like $800... Is there a product I'm not seeing that's comparable to the area 51??
