If you can afford to experiment ( gamble $$ and lose) would be the only way I would try it. There's no info on any LED's or drivers ect.

The bad thing I've noticed is that just about all LED light makers claims they are best but few can prove it. Some will outright lie about it, mostly those made in China I would geusstimate.

thoughts on the global star 100 x 5 watt dioeds?? 500 watt say it covery 7-8 square feet?? please help i need a good led light

Do you have a link for the light? Depending on your budget, you could do better probably. As the light essentially draws probably between 250-350 watts. Based on that, it could be adequate for 7-8 sq. ft @30-45+ watts/per sq. ft. But the efficiency is probably low.
500w is the max current that these diodes in THEORY could draw if incredible amounts of heat were somehow and very expensively contained.
Driving leds softer i.e. results in better efficiency and more overall light output at watt for watt. This is why the expensive lights work, they are built on thin margins, but driven relatively efficiently while providing excellent output and at known ranges.
The other problem with the Global Star is that is probably a guessing game as to its light output and light spectrum

Hope that helps im new to computers and dont know how to add links, so i cut n pasted the info..I f you can advise me on an led that can cover a 4x4 area thats under $200 id really apreaciate it.. i already have 2 400 watt hps above a 5x5 area and just want the led for extra coverage,, i just dont want to get a bad one,,please give me some input!

As the lamp im talking about is new technology,it would probably be wise to wait a while to see if anybody puts a review of it on the sales page.If they dont work well,people are usually keen to let the seller know they are selling shite.
Its an interesting concept though,magnifying light and running on about a third power,if i understand it right.

The nasa Ames center here in the Bay Area is decked out with Apache's. They are for research...here on earth. Everyone thinks because it's nasa that they are for space growth. Maybe yes one day. But the original plan was to maximize growth and efficiency along with spectral effects. Testing different spectrums and chip. When the at120 and all the present spectrums they were done in conjunction with the Ames crews input. At the time nichia was years ahead of Cree. Since then they have caught up and taken the lead with cobs. But smaller package chips nichia is still right there up top.
So yes Apache still works with nasa Ames and built the original model/design at120 specifically for them.
Soon after that Stanford and the big aquariums were retrofitting their facilities as well as the usda.
All of them still work with Apache because of the performance of the units. There are very few companies left from before 2011...Apache has been consider arguably the best the whole time and still now. At600 is great...but they are still making new things to test and build to make the next superior generation.

Pack up your gear guys it's time to hang it up. These guys are claiming 90,000 lumens out of a 300 watt LED GROW LIGHT which is 300 lumens/watt.

Which is made even more remarkable by the fact that their parent company specs the 300 watt area light @ 24,000 lumens or 80 lumens/watt. So I would lean to the grow light for my area lights since it's delivering 3X the lumens.

GUESS ill buy a 600 watt balast since nobody can recomend an led that can cover a 4x4 area for around$200.00 i thought about buying the generic 100 3 watt or the global star 100x5watt diodes but no replies...there is also a generic that has 600 watt. anybody please recomend me a good priced led that will actually out produce my 400 watt hps in a 4x4 grow????

for a 4x4 minimum for quality led will cost a $1000 2 area 51 panels. For less you can build a diy cree cob or vero cob lights. about $600.
You wont find a quality 600w hps for less than $300 (nice hood)
Those leds on ebay and amazon are crap. There only a small hanful of companies that make quality leds and induction.
