If You Give A Holiday Clone To A Nube - What's The Survival Rate?

I have a few friends who are always asking, "give me a plant." Half joking, but half earnestly believe they can just grow weed better than mine.

I'm sure that this experience is shared by others.

Here is my question: what percent of "gift to nube" clones actually mature to produce bud?

I'm guessing 15%

Its not hard. But if you dont put a bit of study time into it, it wont do well. I imagine novices probably have the biggest problem with proper lighting.

I think the percentages would increase if the receiver was prepared for the plant/gift...I mean if they had a garden site and some kind of lights Immediatly available...

Whenever anyone asks for a clone, i give them a small quiz.... Then when they fail, i tell em to fuck off!

I have 2 friends that I give clones away to, and quite a few that always ask.

I will look at them and ask: what kind of light do u have? Soil? Nutes? Grow space? Fans? Potters? Etc...

If they say none or they will get them, i ask how much money they are working with? Once I break it down the cost of getting started, most shy away. THIS IS NOT A CHEAP FUCKING HOBBY!!!! To do it right, you have to invest! I have $1000's into it, and after every harvest, I invest more.

I like to take more clones than are needed so I am always giving clones away but most of em go to 2 other growers. About a year ago a random friend told me he was given a 1000 watt hps and a "hydro" setup and wanted some clones. He said he knew how to grow, so I gave him about 10 clones. He sucked more ass than anyone I've ever met! His temps were in the 100s, he stripped all the leaves, his soil was soggy wet and he kept asking me why he had gnats and how can he get rid of them . One day I was over trying to help him out but he would disagree or argue with everything I would tell him. His plants all looked burnt and crispy and you guessed it he was the most proud guy you'd ever seen. So long story short I don't give clones to non growers anymore.

Gave my room mate a critical kush clone.
Walked him through everything..
2 weeks into veg he dropped the fuckin thing upside, broke the rootball, and got dirt all over my bathroom.

In my experience 80% of the time people who find out you grow get excited and want to grow too because they think its cool or whatnot but its a fad for them and it'll pass... its like giving a kid a toy you know hes gonna stop playing with after 1 or 2 times...

If they were serious Id guess like 20% chance

I will admit that my pride and arrogance are at work here. It will be a sort of "fuck you. told ya so!,... nanna, nanna, boo-booo" type gift. The down side is that I know I will be called on repeatedly for help, advice and supplies. Drawing the line at supplies. No supplies unless a water main breaks and it's water.

I've given her a list of basic supplies to buy for a cheapo cfl closet grow. About a $100 if she shops craigslist and freecycle. I'll set it up with her.

All that being said - which of the folllowing 5" - 8" clones would you give or would be easiest for a nube to grow (I have extras of these):

Green Crack (HSO)
White Lavender (G13)
Fruit Punch (Heavyweight)

It can go either way. Some will kill them. Some will begin the interesting journey of growing high quality cannabis. Do it.

i agree Doc. I'm a gardener. I want others to learn to garden. I'm taking the chance: 1 clone to an experienced, outdoor, flower gardener; 1 clone to neighbor who can't even keep a porch plant like aloe alive in the Summer.

Ha... nope never.

I don't even tell people I grow so they would never think to ask me about getting a plant off me. ("free weed!!")

It irritates the hell out of me when wannabe growers talk about how they wish they could find good seeds so they could have "free weed". I've lent out my HPS setup, etc, with very specific instructions...

Nobody ever gets it, and they don't really want to learn the first thing about growing. It's all about the "free weed".

So, how did you fail? Forgot to get a timer? Light leaks? No walls at all? And yet you still tried to do it your way to get "free weed" anyway?

No... In fact, whenever I burst some would be grower's hair-brained bubble (that wouldn't work), they get mad at me, and tell me how I'm ruining their enthusiasm.

No, they would rather talk endlessly about how one day they will be the weed king, and get all the free weed. After that, they will never have to work, ever again.
