If you were given a free AeroGarden what would you do with it?

I came across a Aero at a swap meet and could not pass it by. I’m not sure about the model, I just know that the light will move up and down and has 7 sights and I think its a 1 gal tank. Any way the thing was 12$ ...... You all know what this thing is right? I have a tent and was thinking of using this it as a cloner and a light for the mother, any one have any experience with cloning with this thing? Also what do you guys think: Can I cut rock wool cubes into plug size and use them with the AeroGarden?

I am using one right now to grow two plants. I think it is only good enough to grow one or two decent sized plants in. I have heard that it works well with clones, probably not many clones though because the small reservoir will have the roots of all the plants tangled and shit and you will have roots being sucked into the pump. I have two plants and one is about a foot tall and the other is half the size and the roots have almost no room left in the reservoir. The lights on the aerogarden are decent at best. Only good for a small grow. Probably best to grow one plant to grow through veg stage and flower, anything other than that, and you will most likely need a couple extra cfl's or stronger ones.

In seriousness?
I'd use it to grow some basil, mint and other "legitimate" herbs.
Yeah, while you can use it to grow cannabis, its really not ideal for that.

If you got it for free though, it's not a bad idea to just try and grow a plant or two. I'd use bag seed. Which is what I am using. So if you got it for free you aren't really at a loss if something goes wrong. I got mine for free so it's whatever. I would rather have an actual legitimate custom hydro system though. I'm working on it. I think aerogardens weakest points are these.

Lights- Very low wattage and probably won't produce high yields
Reservoir- Is only a gallon, not much room for root growth.
Light timer setting- It's good for vegging, because it automatically has a 16/8 timer built into, all you have to do is set the lights off time. But there is no setting for 12/12 for flowering. So you would have to buy an outlet timer.
Watering- When the water runs low, you have to take the base plate off and refill it, with two plants. I sometimes find myself doing this every two days.

It would be perfect for clones and short veg but you can not expect to flower a plant in that thing.

People have had success with it, you can use rockwool cubes. I did that with one of my plants. Here is two pics (one each plant) they are both 2 days into flowering now. I just flipped the cycle. If you already have a setup, I would most likely sell the aerogarden, unless you want that extra bud in the end. You could use it.

grow culinary herbs in it. a good excuse for the "earthy" smell in the home, from the real grow. subterfuge

You can plug the light into the wall and bypass the program. I spun the light in the base so it faces away from the tank, then I removed the tank and have it shining on a domed seedling mat. My clones are dipped in technafloura rooting gel then put into rockwool cubes then onto the mat. The light is plenty enough to root clones, that's about it.

The problem with the aerogarden is that is specifically designed only to take proprietary light bulbs and proprietary seed packs.

I've heard the bulbs do run on standard wall current, so if you're even a little big technically savvy you can remove their proprietary mounts and replace them with standard sockets to take any CFL bulbs.
