You can get the ph test kit with the drops as a back up to double check if you think your meter is acting up / and use the test drops or strips whenever there is a jump in you ph for a weird reason dont just go by the ph meter when you notice a issue.

I don't think its root rot. I had a younger plant with root rot and it smell horrible. As for watering I am just following what other people have done. Unfortunately there is no industry standard so I have no clue if I am watering too much or not. Most say if its dry when you put your finger in the soil a few knuckles down it's time to water.

I have it in a 5 gallon smart pot also. Just in case it wasn't apparent in the photo.

You have over watered and probably over fed and have salt build up causing lock outs.
Water when pot is light (buy a moisture meter and water when it reads 1.) this top inch of soil is dry thing is crap.
Feed 1/2 the recommended dosage every 2nd watering.
If in soil then don't worry about PH. Its rarely the problem.
If your not in soil..ignore me.

If it's not root rot then it's a pH lockout, by the way I don't agree to just dumped un-pH'ed water in soil, that's not going to work unless you have tapwater that's 7.0 or so and not many do, my tapwater is 8.9 and if I dumped that in my soil that plant would be dead in no time!

But either way the main cause of your problem is over watering. The 'finger method' will only tell you if the top inch is dry and get your finger dirty.
Go by weight. Water weights 8.34 lbs. per gallon. My 5 gal. pots ,with soil, can hold 3 gal when dry so when I water I just added about 25 lbs. to that pot.
Easy to check just by lifting the pot, and no dirty finger. Just a wretched back (lift with the legs!).

Like he says, check whats coming out of your tap. Many municipalities are raising tap water ph so they don't leech lead from old water systems. It's a good idea to check by testing or just calling the water dept.

Yup wasnt present. I use Neem Oil on all my plants. Dont know if it protects from aphids but i heard it works well. I got my new pH meter and it proved my old pH meter is shit. There was too much acid in the soil, causing the root issues and the death of so many leaves practically overnight.

What is the reading of your soil in a slurry test using a neutral PH water from the bag? Im just surprised its the bagged soil is all. What brand and type is it? Very unusual. Its normally a salt build up effecting lockouts.

It's for sure a PPM issues over feed with too many ppms at one time or more! you need to use a ppm meter start low for seedlings and cutting like 300 ppm and increase it 100-200 ppm each week...
