Hello to all,
I tried growing some weed maybe 10 years ago CFL closet grow when I was single and had the whole house to myself but what a fail. My thumb is greener than average but the results were sad. I have been researching lately but I have questions. For those out here doing indoor grows for years I'm looking at your direction.

It will be located in the spare bedroom and it has to be discreet due to my mother-in-law flying in all the damn time.
I can not just put up a grow tent, it will have to be an Ikea 4ft wide 2ft deep and 6ft tall two door closet type cabinet. It will be divided into two 2ft x 2ft parts. One for veg and other for flower.

Is 2 plants for 2ft x 2ft space too much or stick with 1 plant?
What size pots if 2 plants or 1?

I live in Chicago and its 5 degrees outside as we speak, I can't just blow fresh cold air into the cabinet onto the plants. What is my solution?
Can weed grow off of the air inside my household or would it effect the yield?

I thought maybe to draw fresh air with a large fish tank air pump from outside and make the air hose extra long and neatly somehow coil it up in the cabinet. By the time the air gets through all that hose it should be room temp. If that does not heat up the air up enough then run the coiled hose through a pail of water heated by a fish tank heater. Any thoughts on that would be appreciated.

I will install a carbon filter as well. I am not sure if a filter does good enough job to kill the smell where the exhaust can be blown back into the bedroom or do I have to direct it outside?

How many watt LED lights would I need for such grow? 1 light for 2ft x 2ft veg and 1 light for 2ft x 2ft flower.

Anyone can recommend me a good hybrid or indica strain for this type of grow? I heard Blue Dream is the way to go for beginners.

What type of soil and nutrients should I use?

I don't think it's such a good idea to do what you're saying. There's a potential for a big family hassle. Find a buddy who grows and pay him for space.

And in a small cabinet grow...you don't need any actual outdoor air. Just air exchange with your living space. But exhaust may be an issue unless you can pump that outside...which creates it's own problems.

Grow a low odor strain. White Widow as an example...

I come from Poland originally and so is my wife. The culture is different. Marijuana=drugs=bad. These older folk from the old country are uneducated about marijuana and don't want to hear anything about it. But they have a tackle box full of pills that they have to take before they begin the day. It's stupid. I grew up here and lived here for 30 years of my life and if you saw me on the street and talked to me you would not even know I'm Polish. My parents saw me get expelled from High School and lost 2 good paying jobs for refusing to piss for a random. They were the same way but things are different now. I make sure they have edibles, disposable pen and a few pre rolls at home all the time. My mother found an old school dime bag of reggie long time ago and thought I bought cow shit. But my mother in law is a cunt. She is a nurse for 25 years back in Poland but she does not believe in science and evolution. Earth was created in 6 days and pills are good. And she threw away my kids dream catcher hanging on the wall because thats not Catholic but evil worship.
If I had to take all them pills my grandma took everyday I'd be fucked up. And I'm a drug addict if I smoke weed. Vodka is good though in their eyes.
My mother in law comes with this marriage I guess. If she found out she would spread rumors in Poland and I end up a bad person.

So my thoughts.....
I would love to be more open about it but honestly but I do not want to upset my wife. My wife consumes with me every evening and is fine with this grow but asks to be discreet and I respect that. Besides, that size closet is enough weed to sustain my use.

Use a good size HID light in a grow tent with a filter and you're good best of luck

Use your basement if u own the house, and a grow tent.

If its an apartment? Choose: wife or headstash

Northern Lights and White Widow are low odor strains. Fox Farm or Black Gold soil is fine, a 2 x 2 space IS NOT WORTH THE WAIT, yield capacity .

LED light= most efficient, MH + HPS lighting= powerful combo,cheap, inefficient, good flower tho, CMH= cheaper alternative, sorta like a combo hybrid between LED and HPS

1 plant in each stage, I’d use coco as a medium, nutrients matter but don’t fret about them just get a pack and get the pH down and CalMag bottles too. A pH pen is a must but a ppm pen isn’t necessarily but they are very handy.

For a 2x2 I only need about 50W of led for veg. I don’t flower in there but if I did I would think about 150W would be ideal, maybe a Mars1000 or small spider farm or a small DIY quantum board?

Blue Dream should be great, I’d just recommend getting whatever seed you do use from a good breeder and make sure it’s a feminized seed.

You don’t need to draw new air from outdoors imo, and a carbon filter should remove all smells, I’ve never had even a hint on my nose with everything sealed up. That said you can vent your exhaust you will just have to deal with temperature fluctuations more depending on time of year and day, etc.

Yeah, it was fun having my mother-in-law find a small 2 plant grow years back! I let her talk and say how she felt, and then let her know she was sitting at my table, in my kitchen, in my house........I have respect for her thoughts and thanks for the prayers but we can make our own decisions....I swear she compares it to shooting heroin, or its going to lead to that.

I own a 20"x36"x62" tent. You can probably fit it in a closet of your description, and it will add a barrier to catch odors and a frame to hang equipment and make your life generally easier. It also has that new toy plastic smell for the first couple of weeks. Very cool.

I would grow 1-2 plants at a time, using 1-2 gallon pots if you choose to attempt 2 plants or 2-3 gallon if you have 1. Whatever else, I would just go with soil for a first grow, especially if you have prior experience. It's probably the most forgiving medium. And you can grow in fabric pots. They're like cheating when it comes to root development.

As far as lighting, LEDs are the way to go. You'll have no shortage of recommendations, I'm sure.

Consider growing an autoflowering plant in a small space, rather than an indica or sativa. Autos are a hybrid crossed with a strain of cannabis that comes from Siberia-ish. It's accustomed to extremes of day and night, so it flowers after a certain amount of time, the way a tomato will, regardless of hours in a light cycle. You can even shower them with light 24/7 to allow you to use a lower-power light setup to your advantage, and they can benefit from it (I would still recommend lowering the light intensity for a few hours "overnight", because nature blah blah blah).

You should consider a carbon filter and duct fan setup for your exhaust if you're concerned with odor. They're cheap and you can use dryer duct parts. I stuck a vent periscope sideways in a window for my removable DIY setup. It's really that easy.

And two last words of advice: zip ties. They're the new duct tape.

I would use 5 gallon pots. Maybe even 7. 1 plant per light. 200w per chamber. 4 inch carbon filters and fans. The 4 inch I have uses 14w at max. Turned down to half, and it's super quiet. Can look up the brand if you'd like. It's from Amazon

Not sure how you would do your intake and exhaust.

You're getting a lot of good advice here. Tmacc brings up a good point about your fan.
I built something similar size wise to the IKEA cab you have in mind, but my flowering area sits on top of the veg area. I didnt build mine to be stealth, but it would be if it wasnt for the cheap 6" inline fan I use. Invest in the best fan you can afford, or even wait til you can afford the best. Otherwise it's gonna be known something is running/humming.
I dont pull air from outdoors, you should be fine there, I do exhaust outdoors tho. I dont have any experience with carbon filters, but they are made for a reason, and members here say they work.
You can absolutley build yourself a stealth grow. With a small grow like that, I'll assume your power sources wont be a problem. With a quiet fan, your abilities will be your only limitation. Gl

Nice link dude, I changed my original post because I must've been typing my own up when you posted your first one. I hadnt seen anyone mention noise, and that really is one of the biggest factors with a stealth grow. Those fans you linked would work perfect.

Most definitely. Back almost 10 years ago, I had a PC fan exhausting a rubber made tote. The constant humming eventually got me caught by my step mom lol.

And no worries. Yea, I got some quantum boards, and tho I'm not saving energy with those, it made me want to lower the electric on more things. Found these and I dont want to use another brand. Till someone does it better

Buy a small grow tent and use exaust fan with carbon filter you can stash in in closet or in a corner somewhere and put stuff infront, that way you have you grow space without no1 knowing about it

Id grow some big ass stink kush and blow the exhaust in my mother in laws room maybe shed get a big enough contact high to not even know what the hell is going on.But then again she might not leave.
