I'm using the 55gallon ebb n grow system and am having problems keeping the temps down around 66-68 deg. I'm constantly puting ice botles in the resivor. I'm tired of doing that so I'm looking for the best chiller out there. I'm using 45gallons of the 55 there. I want to set it and forget it.

Ive been searching for a while now and I stumbled across a few guys using dorm size refrigerators or something like it to drop there fish tanks 15 plus degrees well I understand that a 1000w bulb is the equivalent of 12000 btu's so using a deep freezers would work well for our app. there much more efficent, more quiet, and cheaper all around Im sure if you googles DIY water chiller you would get something worth talking about

I purchased the Sunleaves Aquachill 1/10th HP chiller about a year ago. It's rated for 132 gallons, and keeps my 35 gallon reservoir at 67F with no problems.

It's priced at $379.00 and worth every penny. Without all the frozen water bottles in my freezer, I have more room to freeze my trimmings!

Good luck with your grow!

I have the active aqua chiller. Ideal for hydro system resivors it's the 1/10 hp does 13-105 gallons and should keep my 55gallon ebb n grow at 66-68deg hopefuly all ways:-) it sure was spendy though. 435$ better do the trick. The guys at the hydro store told me this is the one I want. :-)

How much do youneed to lower the temp. Simple evaporative cooling will usually keep large reservoirs cool. The simple way to handle it is to attach another reservoir to your existing reservoir with two pipes and circulate water between them. On your second reservoir preferably keep it outside the hot grow room and use a couple small box fans to keeop a steady supply of air blowing across the waters surface. The water that is evaporated removes very large amounts of heat. Most people are able to lower their temps an easy 10 to 15 degrees this way. The small pump and small fans are much cheaper to purchase and much cheaper to run than a chiller. the easy way to not have to deal with the humidity rise caused by this cooling is to place the reservoir at a height where the water is say 6 inches below the top of the reservoir. Cut a hole the size of your box fan on each end of the reservoir and have one fan blowing air into the reservoir pointedj ust so it skims the water surface. On the other hole have the fan sucking air out of the resrvoir and exhaust the humid air outside. This way with a lid on the second reservoir and the exhausted air you get cooling without all the added humidity. It will also work with the second resrvoir in the grow room or if you keep your water level low enough in your main resrvoir you can just use the double fans and exhaust hose on the main reservoir itself.

There is a fish supply store that has one for under $200.00 that is the same as the hydro store sells. Johnnybetreed had a thread on it in the DWC page I think. I will see if I can remember the site.
