Have you ever heard of DARPA? How about Internet 2? No income tax no govt research. No research no Tang or Internet.

Income tax goes to a private corporation that lends money and foots us with the bill, it doesn't pay for squat. We are just being robbed, robbery is income tax by definition.

since the 1960's, when the US government created the internet :dunce:
Go ahead, use the government's internet, you'll be stuck using protocols not compatible at all with what I'm using. Sounds like a great plan.

Most of the protocols and structuring you're using was developed by private greed to make money.

So if you want to be a government communism supporter, get the fuck off this site, mooch.

Oh, and have fun on your PDP-10 or Sigma7. Those are bad ass.

The government invented the internet? Really? Naw! You're joking, huh?

Which branch was it? Had to be congress. The Committee for Inventing Things. Right next door the Ministry of Silly Walks.

Well, I have to say, from inside the bubble, that actually you are talking about a much later phenomenon. The Dot Com.

Hearken back with me if you dare, to Baud world. BBS is it, and you have to know what you doing to even know about it.

And that was only when you got the the vaulted heights of 300 baud. There were some 100 baud denzens to be sure, sort of like Ham radio.

What happened was a thing called emergence. From when they were code breaking in WW2 our computer world is emergent from that. Unseen, unplanned, new. For the Internet we add an even more organic element. Self aggregation. It's now a defined field of game theory, called smaller world.

It was discover as all that math is discovered, by observation.

At 300 baud, it is best to have a bulletin board arrangement and log in. Well, folks began to add more more stuff about other bbs and the had other stuff. How to aggregate content was self deciding.

You can trace the agregate nodes, and that's how they found the math. That became http and browsers and links, Yahoo and Google. Google designs from scratch, systems to take advantage of self aggregation of content.

Buck claims that. But I let him claim it. Talking about what he does here also violates the government's TOS. I say let him live by his rules.

fucking retards.

he origins of the Internet reach back to research of the 1960s, commissioned by theUnited States government*to build robust, fault-tolerant, and distributed computer networks. The funding of a new U.S.*backbone*by the*National Science Foundation*in the 1980s, as well as private funding for other commercial backbones, led to worldwide participation in the development of new networking technologies, and the merger of many networks. The*commercialization*of what was by the 1990s an international network resulted in its popularization and incorporation into virtually every aspect of modern human life. As of June 2012, more than 2.4 billion people—over a third of the*world's human population—have used the services of the Internet.[SUP][1][/SUP]

hope you guys never go to the hospital, either. a lot of what they use in there was developed by NASA and was found to be useful for purposes other than space exploration.

hope you guys never interact with many americans, either. most of them have had the benefit of a public education. so if they help you in any way at all, you're receiving the benefits of their public education, too.

Buck,

Have fun with telnet and ftp. You better not use the WWW, especially http or flash. Those were developed by evil non-governmental agencies. I hope you find legacy support for NCP.

Hey Cheese dick

WHo subisdizes internet infrastructure?

Network World - There's a lot of talk these days of
the "Internet as public utility." In fact, if you parse the language of the
stimulus package, you definitely pick up that perspective as part of the motivation
for investing US$7.2 billion in Internet infrastructure.

Rural broadband was instituted in 2009. It made 7.2 billion dollars available for development of these resources. The money was made available to Rural Utilities Service or RUS. Dollars were also provided to another agency namely the National Telecommunication Information Administration, also known as the NTIA, to increase broadband internet as a way to spur jobs and investments in the infrastructure.

There are many iniatives as part of this program. Some of the other infrastructure items the grant covers includes public computer centers, and other sustainable computer programs. This rural broadband initiative goes by the acronymn BTOP.

Dookie,

Who asked them? Anyone can use the internet, even Somalians. If the American government decided tomorrow to never spend one more penny on the internet, guess what would happen? NOT ONE DAMN THING! Everyone would still get their porn. It'd be a tragic nothing happened day.

i'm sure they would have just made them for no reason if the government had not pioneered the internet first, right?

I'm gonna disgree technically speaking, canna. DARPA invented the Internet protocols tcp/ip. Everything you mention is layered on that. The the complex crafting of the Road itself was invented by DARPA, the various types of pavement, say, those protocol like hyper text transfer, or even XML are merely abstraction layers of the vary same thing.

The road and pavement of roads are not the same thing. And where did you get this evil govt business? If you think we are not in bed deep with this govt in the computer business, wrong.

At the top levels, their labs and our labs amount to the same thing. We collaborate, if they let us know at all.

You are talking about patented programming concepts that make a lot of money while we ride the Road.

And the Road goes on forever, (I got one more silver dollar) ahmmm....I digress.

And it isn't like DARPA even built the Road. But, they invented the very idea of a Road.

It self-aggregated and years later Yahoo was born. Why? More protocols were invented, collaborating with the academics and govt both... like http made aggregation more appealing. Colors and Pictures. Need speed for that. Got speed. Got more users. Got speed enough for Porn.

BANG.....

It all sloshes back and forth like that but it is not wrong to say Porn invented the Internet as you you speak of it.

They still won't say much about Internet 2....probably learned the lesson of Porn. (hee, hee)

Doer,

Without html, you'd not have shit. It'd be just a bunch of geeks who think computers the size of a room are cool. What the majority think of as the internet, wouldn't be without HTML and now, Flash. Oh, then there's this.

It wasn't the US who invented how we currently connect to the internet. TCP is what we use. It was a modification of a French protocol as an alternative to ARPANET, codesigned by an American named Cerf and two French named Zimmerman and Pouzin. DARPA then contracted out th BBN Technologies, Stanford University, and the University College London to interconnect ARPANET. So even if ARPANET stayed private, the rest of the world would have had the internet first.

So to conclude, neither Al Gore nor DARPA invented the internet.
