anyway to up your female count? I read in the grow bible that a diet rich in nitrogen will increase your chances of females

nah, i don't buy that, or how else could you explain hermie plants?? to me, if hermies exist, which they do, it must mean that all seeds have both sets of chromosones in them from the get go, otherwise, how could a plant that was female show male flowers or vice versa??
anyhoo's, i've read that page of the bible as well.. and i tried to reduce the day light hours in the first 3 or so weeks of veg, and i thought i was onto something as i only had 1 male out of 7 plants, then i just found 2 more males this week, lol. so i'm not so sure about this anymore, lol..
there's a whole shit load of these techniques. Do any work I don't know. The one that seemed to work for me was vegging with 6500 K light.
DJ Ruiner (here) swears 100 % females using birth control pill extract.

yrs ago,1 of the seedbanks had a list of things that helped up your female count. they claimed almost 70% female if followed exactly. they felt sex was determined around 3-5 weeks after germination. the list included 65k lights, 18/6 light cycles(longer light gave more males)heavy N light P &K, temps lower than normal,(70-72) no temp swings between day & night. PH lower than normal(or was it higher?). dont remember all the detail but I tried it as best I could and got over 6out of 10 a few times & never less than 5out of 10.
