Hi all. Thanks to all of you, i had my first successful outdoor grow in the summer of 2009. As i enjoy the fruits of my labor (2 lbs), i think, hmm. I better get started now if i want any smoke next summer.

I took an old entertainment center and turned that into a 2 compartment grow cabinet. I installed 2 18 W 1' 5000k T12 bulbs for the germination area and a bunch of lights for the veg chamber.

I started with 12 seeds in a cup of water. When then sank the next day, i put them in a wet paper towel and kept them warm. After 3 days all but one cracked. They were planted and within a week, all but one sprouted and are now showing their second sets of leaves.

This is the interesting part. One seed has sprouted 2 shoots. I dont know if they are connected at the root or two seperate plants because i am afraid to expose the roots. All i know is that i placed one seed per peat pot and thats what the result is.

I will be posting pics very soon of the entire set up and updating this thread as time goes on.

sweet I'm lookin forward to seeing pics of your cabinet set up because I've been scheming something like that for when I move into an apartment. Real stealthy, multichamber wardbrobe or ent. center idea. As for the Hydra plant, I've heard of that before, one seed sprouting two plants, I guess it's the same idea as twins?? Best of luck to you, and enjoy that great outdoor herb, that's awesome!

Thanks Vtguitar. As i was transplating the seedlings in the cloning chamber, i examined the twins. The roots are not connected and i could not find any seed shells to determine if they both did indeed come from the same seed. I can only assume that i accidently dropped 2 cracked seeds into the same jiffy pot, however unlikley that may be. For the record, i no longer believe that they are twins.

For some reason my last 5 posts havent gone thru. I am trying to upload pics of the progress.

It has been one month since germinating the seeds. 11 of the 12 cracked. 2 died in the seedling stage and 2 look like they are maybe a week old. The 25 watt light bulb i put in the germination/cloning chamber really did the trick to keep the chamber warm. The small fan i put in kept the temp to be even from the top to the bottom.

I was going to let the seedlings stay in the germination chamber for a full month, but since a couple are growing its 5th set of true leaves, i figure i can safely move up the timetable by a week. A day after transplanting into 3" mouth teracotta pots, no shock was observed.

I FIMed the two plants that were growing its 5th set of true leaves and tied all the plants down. Two days later, no signs of stress. The leaves are pointing back towards the light as is the tip of the plant. I dont have a 25 watt bulb in the vegetation chamber because i have over 180 watts of CFL which keeps the plants nice and warm.

The first picture is the entertainment center with a piece of carboard on the front to close off the veg area. The whole thing is lined with styrofoam and foamboard. The cardboard has a piece of foamboard glued to the inside and on the sides, i attached velco so it closes securely.
The second picture is the lower cabinet where i installed a light. This is where i plant the seeds that i crack using a cup of water, then use the paper towel method. They stay down there until they grow their 3rd sets of leaves. I use the large plastic packaging that a bulk pack of razors came in as a mini greenhouse. This is also where i put the clones. I put a 25w light bulb in there along with a 4" desk fan for heat and circulation. The next two pics are of the veg chamber. I can raise and lower the hanging light as well as raise and lower the tray the plants are on. The last pic are the plants.

Seedling/Cloning Chamber Lights:
2, 1 foot 18w T12s
25w icandescent
61 watts total

Veg chamber
1, 55w CFL 5000k
2, 45w CFL 5000k
2 32w CFL 2600k
209 total watts

Growing Medium:
10% perlite
15% coarse sand
25% worm castings
50% organic compost

I saw some very impressive pics that someone took of their set up. Their plants were the same age as mine and literally twice as big. I went back to my grow chamber and yelled at my plants for slacking off. I then watered them with carbonated water-with no sodium. 10 hours later, they grew about half an inch. One of the two runt plants is dead. The other one is pretty sturdy, just miniature. I will do a half and half experiment for one week. I will water half of the plants with carbonated water, and the other half with just water and compare. My next experiment will be mixing carbonated water with hydrogen peroxide.

So here we are in mid week 5. The big ass bushy one is the one that is getting the carbonated water. They get rotated every couple of days so they get even light doses over time.

The close up is the carbonated water fed one which has grown so much, i have FIMed the shit out of it in a bunch of areas a couple of times.

Merry Xmas!
I had to replace the 45 W 27k lights in the veg chamber with 23 watts. The temps were getting over 90. I added a bit of rooting hormone to 2 plants where the stems were touching the soil to see if i can get more roots built. I did a second tie down to a couple of plants and i did more FIMing.
I stopped the carbonated water feeding a few days ago and began to feed with a diluted high N nute. Some roots have grown out the small hole at the bottom of the terra cotta pots. I clipped those. I have to start thinking about transplanting into larger planters but i dont have enough room for all 8 plants.
Im going to give the plants a break this week. Ill only bee watering and rotating them. No FIM, no new ties.

I added a couple of 26 watt 65k CFLs to the same socket that the 55watter was on. 8 hours later, i saw that i had all but totally fried a plant and the temps in the veg chamber were over 100. That so sucks. It makes me think that anything over 40 watts creates just too much heat.

I ordered 4 more lights from bulborama.com.
I got 2 30watt 65K CFLs and 2 30 watt 50K CFLs which will bring me to 265 watts. I installed 2 more light fixtures to hold the bulbs. I also moved the fan to blow on the plants. This should help strengthen the stems.
I transplanted the remaining 7 plants into two 3 gallon pots. Three plants per pot and the runt, which has only been FIMed and not LST. The runt was put in a half gallon pot on its own. Ill be using that for cloning experiments.
Last summer, i had up to 5 plants in a 3 gallon planter so im not all that concerned.
Tonight, i am going to start 5 more seeds in cup of water to soften them, then do the paper towel thing till they crack.

So the plants really like the new set up. I slightly tightened the cap on the bottle that the CO2 is being generated in so that the pressure builds up then slowly releases. Its right above the plant line so the majority of it flows directly onto the plants. I did a bit more LST to a few nodes that are growing nicely.

Here is an image of the lastest configuration and the plants at week 6.

Really nice looking set up and the wee plants look really healthy and look as though they are enjoying life. How did you get them to keep so small and bushy ? Are they beinh tied down at all. I would be grateful if you would let me know.

Looks tops mate.

Thank you.

I started to LST and FIM when the fourth and fifth true leaves sprouted, very early. I was afraid that FIM and LST would create a tangled web of nodes and at first it seemed to, but they sort of worked themeselves free with a bit of help from me. Now they are growing bushy and the new nodes that are becoming colas are growing upward.

So i purchased some CO2 tablets from an aquarium supply store. Each tab, when put into 3 oz of water, releases 350 CC of CO2. Over a period of 4 days i used 3 of them.

The plants LOVED it. I got a ton of new growth. The leaves are a bit darker and just look more lucious. It did increase my temperature to 90 degrees and my humidity went thru the roof.

I started 5 more seeds-soak-papertowel-soil in peat pots in germination chamber. Four have broken the surface as of last night.

I also cut the lowest stem from the runt plant to clone. I removed the lowest set of leaves, split the bottom of the stalk, and scraped the outer layer of the stem at the bottom. I also clipped the tips of fan leaves. I dipped it in rooting powder and put that into some wet soil. I put a bag over the pot. A couple of days later, no stress is visible. I have yet to have a successful cloning attempt.

Its been a while. In the meantime, i have cloned all the plants and started 4 more seeds.

I finished the flowering area and completed the entire grow room, including carbon filter, insulation, and all lights.

The plants you watched grow up have started flowering yesterday. I set up two 2" four bulb T5 fixtures, heavy on the red, with four 90w CFLs, mixed 50k and 27k.

This is the next step in my perpetual grow plans. I stil lhave to determine the sex of the plants and get rid of the males.

When i transplanted one clone into the veg area, i was suprized with the massive root system it grew in just 2.5 weeks.

So here we are in March. Flower in week 4, clones rooting down below, and clones vegging up above.

I FIMed 1/4 of the buds the other day. I did this last year for my outdoor grow and the buds i did it to split into 2-4 buds that ended up being about 2/3 the size of the original bud, EACH! Thats a 150-300% increase. It causes the harvest to be pushed by about a week but the results are amazing.

All but 1 plant ended up being a female so i have a flowering cabinet full of females and a cloning chamber with ladies and 2 unknowns.
