I have a 4" Inline can fan on the way with a carbon filter.
My question is does the filter hook up directly to the fan? I'm not sure if I will really need to hook up ducts yet, But I need something good to control the odor.
Also can I just cut a extention cord to wire it to be able to plug it in.
Any imput is greatly appreciated.

im workin on the same thing, slightly bigger fan. id also like to know the best way to implement a carbon filter on it, i was thinkin about just putting one at the end of duct leaving the house, or maybe right behind or infront of the fan.

They should mate if its a 4" can filter. If not a flange/adapter can be had at homedepot cheep and a couple of pipeclamps and foil vent tape you should be good to go.

OK ...

If your light hood has vents, leave one vent open, hook up the fan with dryer hose to the other vent, then run more dryer hose to the fan ... then exit everything out the top of your cabinet/tent/room and connect up with the carbon filter. This way, air from the grow area is directed across your light for cooling, then out the hood into the fan and filter. Cooling and filtering solved in one operation. :)

Thanks for the info, I'll use it next time, I don't have a hood with vents.
I'm going to just try and rig something up to control odor, and maybe some of the heat, I just spent more than anticipated for now and a good hood is going to have to wait till this grow is over. This grow is more of a learning experience, Been a while. and things have changed for the better! Thanks.

If you don't mind my asking, where did you purchase it from? I'm in the market for one myself.
